Kalša
Kalša ( hu, Kalsa) is a village and municipality in Košice-okolie District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. History The village of Kalša lies at the southeastern foot of the Slanské vrchy mountains in the Podslanská hills. The village developed in the territory belonging to the monastery of the Crusaders. The first written mention of the village dates from 1270. In the medieval age it belonged to local landowners, later it became the property of the city of Košice by deposit and sale. In the past, the population was involved in traditional agriculture, logging and carting. There was a sawmill and a quarry in the village. In 1715 the village was completely depopulated but in 1828 it had 40 houses and 287 inhabitants. The development of the population in the following years had an increasing tendency: in the years 1869 - 361 inhabitants, in 1910 - 376, 1930 - 460, 1961 - 730, 1970 - 766 inhabitants. Košice-okolie District
Košice–okolie District (''okres Košice–okolie''; hu, Kassa-vidéki járás) is a district in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. It surrounds the city of Košice, which serves as the district seat although it does not belong to the district. History The Košice–okolie district was a part of Great Moravia until the 10th century. After the district fell apart, the area was incorporated into Abaúj and Torna, which were counties of the Kingdom of Hungary. The region was a part of Abaúj-Torna County from 1882 until the end of World War I. It then became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Excluding a small section in the north, the district formed a part of Abovsko-turnianská župa of the county of Šariš from 1918 to 1923. Okres (Czech and Slovak term meaning "district" in English; from German Kreis - circle (or perimeter)) refers to administrative entities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is similar to Landkreis in Germany or "''okrug''" in other Slavic-speaking countries. The first districts in the Czech lands developed from domains in 1850 by the decision of the Imperial government of Austria. In the territory of present-day Slovakia their predecessors were districts of the counties of the Kingdom of Hungary ''(slúžnovský okres'' in Slovak). Košice Region
The Košice Region ( sk, Košický kraj, , hu, Kassai kerület; uk, Кошицький край) is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions. The region was first established in 1923 and its present borders were established in 1996. It consists of 11 districts (okresy) and 440 municipalities, 17 of which have a town status. About one third of the region's population lives in the agglomeration of Košice, which is its main economic and cultural centre.
