Kai Jensen
Kai Sofus Marinus Jensen (25 February 1897 – 31 May 1997) was a Danish athlete who competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics where, representing Københavns Idræts Forening, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the men's 400 metres, the semifinals of the men's 800 metres and the men's 4 × 100 metres relay. In the latter he competed alongside Poul Schiang, Henri Thorsen, and Mogens Truelsen. 1924 Summer Olympics
The 1924 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade) and also known as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. The Games were the second to be hosted by Paris (after 1900), making it the first city to host the Olympics twice. The selection process for the 1924 Summer Olympics consisted of six bids, and Paris was selected ahead of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Prague, and Rome. The selection was made at the 20th IOC Session in Lausanne in 1921. The cost of these Games was estimated to be 10,000,000 F. With total receipts at 5,496,610F, the Olympics resulted in a hefty loss despite crowds that reached up to 60,000 in number daily. Birkerød
Birkerød () is a town in Rudersdal Municipality in the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is surrounded by several lakes and small woodlands. Birkerød station is located on the Hillerød radial of the S-train suburban network. History The parish of Birkerød contained the villages Birkerød, Kajerød, Bistrup, Ravnsnæs, Isterød, Høsterkøb, Sandbjerg and Ubberød. Birkerød became a railway town in 1868, when the Nordbanen railway opened a station here between Lyngby and Helsingør. This led to new growth and several brickyards opened in the area in the second half of the 19th century. The rail line between Copenhagen and Hillerød was later converted to an S-train suburban line and construction of new residential neighbourhoods accelerated in the 1940s which, in time, made Birkerød merge with Bistrup to the south, Kajerød to the west and Ravnsnæs to the east. Københavns Idræts Forening (abbreviated Københavns IF, KIF) is a Danish athletics club based in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen. The club is based at the Østerbro Stadium and the indoor Club Danmark Hallen in Valby. The club was founded in 1892 as ''Københavns Fodsports-Forening''—the club adopted its current name in 1914—and is Denmark's oldest athletics club. 37 members of Københavns Idræts Forening have competed at the Olympic Games. Niels Holst-Sørensen, one of the club's athletes, won a gold medal in the 400 metres at the 1946 European Athletics Championships in Oslo.
