Københavns Idræts Forening (abbreviated Københavns IF, KIF) is a Danish athletics club based in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen. The club is based at the Østerbro Stadium and the indoor Club Danmark Hallen in Valby. The club was founded in 1892 as ''Københavns Fodsports-Forening''—the club adopted its current name in 1914—and is Denmark's oldest athletics club. 37 members of Københavns Idræts Forening have competed at the Olympic Games. Niels Holst-Sørensen, one of the club's athletes, won a gold medal in the 400 metres at the 1946 European Athletics Championships in Oslo. Gunnar Nielsen another of the club's athletes was 1955 world record holder at 1500 metres with 3.40.8. By the time of its centenary in 1992, the club's members had won a total of 575 gold medals at the Danish championships—the club is second only to Sparta in the number of Danish champions that it has produced. Christian Christensen (athlete)
Christian August Christensen (6 August 1876 in Copenhagen – 5 December 1956 in Søllerød) was a Danish book printer and track and field athlete. He competed at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. He was a member of Københavns Idræts Forening and served as the club's president from 1903-1905 and from 1916-1918. Ernst Schultz
Ernst Ludvig Emanuel Schultz (15 May 1879 – 20 June 1906) was a Danish sprinter who won a bronze medal in the 400 m event at the 1900 Summer Olympics. In the 1898-99 athletics season, Schultz had set Danish records in the 200 metres and quarter-mile distances and in 1899 he won the 150 metre national title when running for the Københavns IF club. The following year, just after his 21st birthday, he traveled to Paris, France to participate in the 1900 Summer Olympics, Schultz was the youngest of the 13 man team from Denmark. He competed in one event the 400 metres, in the first round, although his time is unknown, he finished in second place behind American William Moloney, so qualified for the final the next day. Eugen Schmidt
Eugen Stahl Schmidt (17 February 1862 in Copenhagen, Denmark - 7 October 1931 in Aalborg, Denmark) was a Danish shooter, athlete, and tug of war competitor. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens and at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. Background Schmidt was an active sportsman and an outstanding athlete, practicing several modalities such as gymnastics, rowing, athletics, tennis, football, fencing, skating, golf and swimming. Henry Petersen
Henry Petersen (1 October 1900 – 24 September 1949) was a Danish athlete. He competed in the pole vault at the 1920 and 1924 Olympics and won a silver medal in 1920, placing fourth in 1924. Petersen won the national pole vault title in 1920–21, 1923 and 1925–27 and improved the national record eight times from 3.69 m in 1919 to 4.03 m in 1925. Wilson Kipketer
Wilson Kosgei Kipketer (born 12 December 1972) is a Danish former middle distance runner. He is the second fastest of all time over 800 meters, setting the world record and breaking his own record two more times all in 1997. He dominated the 800 m distance for a decade, remaining undefeated for a three-year period and running 8 of the 17 currently all-time fastest times. He won gold medals in three successive editions of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Though unable to compete in the 1996 Olympics near the peak of his career, he earned silver in 2000 and bronze in 2004. Kipketer's 800 meters world record stood for almost 13 years. It was surpassed on 22 August 2010, when David Rudisha beat it by 0.02 seconds, running 1:41.09.
