Kabir (sometimes spelled ''kabeer'') is an honorific title in the Harari language. It commonly designates a Muslim scholar or a teacher. Enrico Cerulli states the term is of Ethiopian Semitic origin. According to the Afar locals in Afambo a Harari Muslim scholar by the name Kabir Hamza arrived into the region, and introduced Hanafi legal school into Aussa his descendants today are known as ''"Kabirtu"'' and identify as Harla. Kabirtu in Afar trace their lineage to the Walasma dynasty. Kabir Hamza Mahmud al-Awsiyyi a Harla clan affiliate was known as the scholar of Aussa. People with the title include: *Kabir Khalil, scholar in the Emirate of Harar *Kabir Muhammad, Muezzin of Ahmed ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi *Kabir Ibrahim, Muezzin of Abun Adashe *Kabir Hamid, ancestor of the Wolane people *Kabir Abdulmuhaymin Abdulnasser, contemporary Harari scholar *Kabir Hassan, Qallu Qallu is one of the thirteen sub-clans of the Sheikhal clan.

Harla
The Harla, also known as Harala, or Arla, are an extinct ethnic group that once inhabited Djibouti, Ethiopia and northern Somalia. They spoke the now-extinct Harla language, which belonged to either the Cushitic or Semitic branches of the Afroasiatic family. There are existing books like "The Book of Obligations" () in Old Harari written roughly 500 years ago, when Hararis were referred to as "Harla" at that time as attested to in the ''Conquest of Abyssinia''. Wolane People
The Wolane people are an ethnic group in southern Ethiopia. Wolane people speak a Semitic language which is closely related to Sil'te, Zay and Harari languages. One of the Wolane peoples ancestor was Kabir Hamid who arrived from Harar. Wolane’s territory was annexed into Gurage after Menelik's forces invaded in the 1800's. Wolane domain today remains under the Gurage zone's eastern most district, however there has been calls by the Wolane to push for a separate Wolane region. Abun Adashe
''Garad'' Abun Adashe ( Harari: አቦኝ አደሼ) was a Harari Emir of the Adal Sultanate. Reign Garad Abun Adashe ruled from 1519 to 1525 and led a campaign against the Walashma dynasty. Adashe campaigned against Sultan Abu Bakr ibn Muhammed; however he was decisively defeated at Harar his own base and Abu Bakr successfully invaded Harar with the assistance of Somali militias. Imam Ahmed Al Gurey served as an advisor and respected infantryman for Adashe against the Walashma forces. After his loss, Ahmed Gurey avenged his sultan's death and killed Abu Bakr. Garad Abun's son Garad Abass succeeded his father and supported Imam Ahmed in his conquest by leading Jihad after Ahmed's death. Ahmed Ibn Ibrahim Al-Ghazi
Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi ( so, Axmed Ibraahim al-Qaasi or Axmed Gurey, Harari: አሕመድ ኢብራሂም አል-ጋዚ, ar, أحمد بن إبراهيم الغازي ; 1506 – 21 February 1543) was an imam and general of the Adal Sultanate. Imam Ahmad (commonly named Ahmed ''Gurey'' ''in Somali, and ''Gura'' in Afar, both meaning "the left-handed" or "the southpaw")'', invaded the Ethiopian Empire under the Sultanate of Adal during the Ethiopian-Adal War. Muezzin
The muezzin ( ar, مُؤَذِّن) is the person who proclaims the call to the daily prayer ( ṣalāt) five times a day (Fajr prayer, Zuhr prayer, Asr prayer, Maghrib prayer and Isha prayer) at a mosque. The muezzin plays an important role in ensuring an accurate prayer schedule for the Muslim community. Khalil (scholar)
Kabir Khalil or ''scholar Khalil'' was a 19th-century scholar and one of the three head Ulama in the Emirate of Harar. He was a member of the Qadiriyya order which was prominent in the Horn of Africa at the time. Biography Kabir (teacher), Kabir Khalil was fluent in both Harari language, Harari, and Arabic. During the reign of Emir Ahmad III ibn Abu Bakr, Ahmad Ibn Abu Bakr the European explorer Richard Francis Burton, Richard Burton would visit the Harar in 1855 and Khalil was described as the leading religious figure in the city. Walasma Dynasty
The Walashma dynasty was a medieval Muslim dynasty of the Horn of Africa. Founded in 1285, it was centered in Zeila, and established bases around the Horn of Africa. It governed the Ifat and Adal Sultanates in what are present-day Somaliland, Djibouti and eastern Ethiopia. Asaita ( am, አሳይታ, Asayəta, aa, Aysaqiita), also known as Aussa (Awsa), is a town in northeastern Ethiopia, and until 2007 served as the capital of the Afar Region of Ethiopia. Harari Language
Harari is an Ethiopian Semitic language spoken by the Harari people of Ethiopia. According to the 2007 Ethiopian census, it is spoken by 25,810 people. Most of its speakers are multilingual in Amharic and/or Eastern Oromo. Harari is closely related to the Eastern Gurage languages, Zay, and Silt'e, all of whom are linked to the now extinct Semitic Harla language. Hanafi
The Hanafi school ( ar, حَنَفِية, translit=Ḥanafiyah; also called Hanafite in English), Hanafism, or the Hanafi fiqh, is the oldest and one of the four traditional major Sunni schools ( maddhab) of Islamic Law (Fiqh).
