KARW (Texas)
KARW was a radio station broadcasting at 1280 kHz AM in Longview, Texas, United States, between 1948 and 1994. The station was last owned by Pine Tree Media, Inc. History Early years R. G. LeTourneau, owner of the Le Tourneau Technical Institute, filed for a construction permit for a new radio station in Longview on June 27, 1947. Though he initially specified 960 kHz, he changed the application to 1280 in order to avoid a hearing. The Federal Communications Commission granted the application on May 19, 1948. Originally assigned the call letters KFRN, they were changed to KLTI before signing on October 27, 1948. LeTourneau, who had previously built America's first all-steel radio studio at a station in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, constructed KLTI's studios using then-new concrete techniques. Macon, Missouri
Macon is a city in and the county seat of Macon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,457 at the 2020 census. History Macon was platted in 1856. Like the county, Macon was named for Nathaniel Macon. A post office called Macon City was established in 1856, and the name was changed to Macon in 1892. In May 1898, there was a string of break-ins in the area of Macon. The break-ins included the theft of food and items, as well as assaults on women. In late June, there was a break-in at the home of John Koechel, a blind broom maker. During this break-in, there were references to previous assaults, an attempted assault, and a theft of two sacks of flour. Police officers followed a trail of tiny white specks to the home of Henry Williams, who was later arrested with no resistance. KFMZ is a radio station at 1470 AM in Brookfield, Missouri. The station is owned by the Best Broadcast Group and carries a hot adult contemporary format, primarily simulcasting KZBK 96.9 FM. KFMZ is also heard on FM translator K241BT at 96.1 FM. History 1470 AM in the Green Hills went on air February 14, 1956, as KGHM (for Green Hills of Missouri). The station was constructed by the Green Hills Broadcasting Company, which was owned by Ira Williams. George P. Williams became the owner in 1965; W-H Enterprises acquired KGHM in 1970; and the station was sold to Brookfield Broadcasting in 1974. In 1980, the station was sold to Hampro-Wireless. KZBK is a radio station airing a hot adult contemporary format licensed to Brookfield, Missouri, broadcasting on 96.9 MHz FM. The station is owned by Best Broadcasting, Inc. History KQMO at 97.7 MHz signed on August 17, 1981 simulcasting sister AM station KGHM during the day and airing its own programming until midnight. Two years later, however, KGHM-KQMO went silent and remained so for a year until the station was sold by Hampro Wireless to Dwight and Carolyn Carver in 1984. The resumption of operations of both stations was delayed into 1985 by FCC requirements. After the sale, both stations changed call letters: KGHM became gospel station KGNG, while KQMO relaunched as KZBK with an adult contemporary format. Best acquired KGNG-KZBK in 1993.
