KFMZ is a radio station at 1470 AM in Brookfield, Missouri. The station is owned by the Best Broadcast Group and carries a hot adult contemporary format, primarily simulcasting KZBK 96.9 FM. KFMZ is also heard on FM translator K241BT at 96.1 FM. History 1470 AM in the Green Hills went on air February 14, 1956, as KGHM (for Green Hills of Missouri). The station was constructed by the Green Hills Broadcasting Company, which was owned by Ira Williams. George P. Williams became the owner in 1965; W-H Enterprises acquired KGHM in 1970; and the station was sold to Brookfield Broadcasting in 1974. In 1980, the station was sold to Hampro-Wireless. Hampro ownership, while short, was consequential, as the company received the construction permit to build a new FM radio station to accompany KGHM. KFMZ was a radio station on 98.3 FM in Columbia, Missouri, which broadcast between 1971 and 2001. KFMZ went off the air when its licensee, Contemporary Media, Inc., had all of its licenses cancelled in response to a Federal Communications Commission investigation. The 98.3 frequency remained vacant for 15 years until KDVC (FM), KDVC signed on in November 2016. History KFMZ signed on October 12, 1971. The station carried an album oriented rock (AOR) format. In 1974, a fire in downtown Columbia tore through a block of businesses; KFMZ's studios were affected by smoke damage, and employees moved equipment out by hand. The president of Contemporary Media was Michael S. Rice. In 1994, Rice was convicted of sexually abusing five teenagers in Missouri. KZBK is a radio station airing a hot adult contemporary format licensed to Brookfield, Missouri, broadcasting on 96.9 MHz FM. The station is owned by Best Broadcasting, Inc. History KQMO at 97.7 MHz signed on August 17, 1981 simulcasting sister AM station KGHM during the day and airing its own programming until midnight. Two years later, however, KGHM-KQMO went silent and remained so for a year until the station was sold by Hampro Wireless to Dwight and Carolyn Carver in 1984. The resumption of operations of both stations was delayed into 1985 by FCC requirements. Moberly is a city in Randolph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 13,974 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia, Missouri metropolitan area. History Moberly was founded in 1866, and named after Colonel William E. Moberly, the first president of the Chariton and Randolph County railroads. Moberly, the "Magic City", grew from the town platted by the North Missouri R. R. (Wabash) in 1866 to a transportation center with a 6,070 population by 1880.
