Juhan Liiv
Juhan Liiv ( – ) is one of Estonia's most famous poets and prose writers. Childhood Juhan (birth names Johannes) Liiv, the son of Benjamin and Marianna Liiv (née Pärn), was born on 30 April 1864, in Alatskivi Parish (now Peipsiääre Parish), in the Kreis Dorpat of the Governorate of Livonia, and grew up in Rupsi village, in Oja farm owned by his family. Liiv grew up in a poor and devoutly religious family and was the youngest amongst five children. His older brother Jakob Liiv also became a poet. At home, he and his siblings were raised to be staunch Christianity, Christians and his parents were quick to reprimand any small transgression. Despite their poverty and religion, Liiv's parents understood the importance of education and invested what little money they had towards their children's schooling. Juhan Parts (born 27 August 1966) is an Estonian politician who was Prime Minister of Estonia from 2003 to 2005 and Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications from 2007 to 2014. Juhan Parts is a member of Isamaa party. Education Born in Tallinn, Juhan Parts completed Gustav Adolf Grammar School in Tallinn (then ''Tallinn Secondary School No. 1''). Juhan Aare (20 February 1948 – 6 October 2021) was an Estonian journalist, politician, and the founder of the Estonian Green Movement (not to be confused with current Estonian Green Party) as well as one of the instigators of the Phosphorite War protest movement. Since 3 December 2002, he was a member of the People's Union of Estonia. In the 1980s he was a journalist in the TV-program ''Panda'', which dealt with environmental issues. Juhan Maaker ( – 21 September 1930) nicknamed ''Torupilli-Juss'' was an Estonian folk musician, a player of the Estonian bagpipe. He was considered one of the most popular players at the time called the king of bagpipe players. During his lifetime Juhan Maaker performed with great success in hundreds of concert halls and became popular all over Estonia and also in Finland. Juhan Luiga (31 March 1873 – 19 October 1927) was an Estonian psychiatrist, physician, author, publicist, and politician. He was a member of I Riigikogu. Career Juhan Luiga was born in Ropka in 1873. He attended primary and secondary schools in Tartu. In 1899, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu. In 1904, he became one of the first Estonian psychiatrists, Doctor of Medicine. From 1899 until 1908, he worked as an assistant at the Nervous and Mental Diseases Clinic of the University of Tartu. From 1908 until 1927, he worked in private practice in Tallinn, as well as a city and school physician. During World War I, he worked as a military doctor. Juhan Kivirähk (born 2 July 1957 in Tallinn) is an Estonian sociologist. Kivirähk is the older brother of writer Andrus Kivirähk. In 1980 he graduated from Tartu State University in economic cybernetics. From 1984 until 1988, he studied at the Estonian Academy of Sciences at the Institute of Socioeconomic Problems. He is one of the founders of two Estonian poll companies: AS Emor (established in 1990) and OÜ Uuringukeskus Faktum (established in 2002). 1998-2002 he was the vice-director of the poll company Turu-uuringute AS. Juhan Kunder (26 December 1852 Holstre Parish, Viljandi County – 24 April 1888) was an Estonian poet, playwright, author of natural history textbooks, and folklore collector. From 1872 to 1875 he attended Tartu Teachers' Seminary. From 1873 he was a member of Estonian Students' Society. He was also a member of Society of Estonian Literati, being its deputy president between 1882 and 1888. He was also active in Alexander School movement.
