José Raimundo Carrillo
Captain José Raimundo Carrillo (1749–1809) was Californio soldier and settler, known as an early settler of San Diego, California and as the founder of the Carrillo family of California. Biography Carrillo was born in 1749 in New Spain (present-day México) at Loreto, Baja California. He came to upper Las Californias as a soldier with the first expedition of Gaspar de Portolà in 1769, and rose to rank of Captain. Carrillo served at the Presidio of Santa Barbara, Presidio of Monterey, and in 1806, the Presidio of San Diego. He was commandant of the Presidio of San Diego during 1807–1809. In 1809 he died and was buried in the chapel on Presidio Hill November 10, 1809. Californio
Californio (plural Californios) is a term used to designate a Hispanic Californian, especially those descended from Spanish and Mexican settlers of the 17th through 19th centuries. California's Spanish-speaking community has resided there since 1683 and is made up of varying Spanish and Mexican origins, including criollos, Mestizos, Indigenous Californian peoples, and small numbers of Mulatos. Alongside the Tejanos of Texas and Neomexicanos of New Mexico and Colorado, Californios are part of the larger Spanish-American/Mexican-American/Hispano community of the United States, which has inhabited the American Southwest and the West Coast since the 16th century. Rancho Sespe
Rancho Sespe was a Mexican land grant in present-day Ventura County, California given in 1833 by Governor José Figueroa to Carlos Antonio Carrillo. The grant encompassed the Santa Clara River Valley between Piru Creek on the east and Santa Paula Creek on the west, and was bounded to the north and south by the mountains, and included present day Fillmore. History Carlos Antonio Carrillo (17831852), the son of José Raimundo Carrillo of the prominent Santa Barbara family, had been elected to the assembly and was later Governor of Alta California from 1837-1838. Carrillo claimed the Sespe grant was for six square leagues (approximately ). Leopoldo Antonio Carrillo (; August 6, 1880 – September 10, 1961), known professionally as Leo Carrillo, was an American actor, vaudevillian, political cartoonist, and conservationist. He was best known for playing Pancho in the television series '' The Cisco Kid'' (1950–1956) and in several films. Juan José Carrillo
Juan José Carrillo (September 8, 1842 – March 30, 1916) was a Californio politician and judge, who served as Mayor of Santa Monica and as the last City Marshal of Los Angeles. Biography Carrillo was born in Santa Barbara to Pedro Carlos Antonio Carrillo (1818–1888) and Maria Josefa Bandini (1823–1896). He was a member of the Carrillo family of California, a prominent Californio family. His mother was one of three Bandini sisters; Maria Josefa, Ysidora, and Arcadia. Rancho Las Posas
Rancho Las Posas was a Mexican land grant in present-day Ventura County, California. It was given in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to José Antonio Carrillo. Geography The grant extends along the Arroyo Simi (river) in the western Simi Valley and southern Oxnard Plain, from near present-day Moorpark to Camarillo. Rancho Las Virgenes
Rancho Las Vírgenes was a land grant in the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills, in present day western Los Angeles County, California. The lands of the Rancho Las Vírgenes included present day Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Westlake Village and part of the Santa Monica Mountains. It was given in 1802 by Spanish Governor José Joaquín de Arrillaga to Miguel Ortega, but was abandoned after his death in 1809.
