Joseph-Élisée Beaudet
Joseph-Élisée Beaudet (October 25, 1832 – February 15, 1910) was a businessman and political figure in Quebec. He represented Chicoutimi-Saguenay in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1880 to 1881 as a Conservative. His name also appears as Élisée Beaudet. He was born on October 25, 1832 in Lotbinière, Birth name: Joseph Élisé Beaudet. Baptized 25 October 1832 and born last night. Lower Canada, the son of Amable Beaudet and Félicité Chabot. He was partner with Eugène Chinic in the firm Chinic et Beaudet, later the Chinic Hardware Company of Québec. Beaudet was also co-owner of a sawmill at Betsiamites and director and vice-president for the Quebec and Lake St. John Railway. He later served as a customs official at Quebec City. He was married twice: to Éléonore-Georgianne Hardy in 1859 and to Emma Bourgeois in 1906. Lotbinière is a former provincial electoral district in the Centre-du-Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the municipalities of Lotbinière, Saint-Flavien, Lemieux, Laurierville, Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, Sainte-Croix and Laurier-Station. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). William Evan Price
William Evan Price (November 17, 1827 – June 12, 1880) was a businessman and political figure in Quebec, Canada. He was a Conservative Member of Parliament representing Chicoutimi-Saguenay from 1872 to 1874. Biography He was born at the Wolfesfield (or ''Wolfe's Field'') Estate (''domaine Wolfesfield'') in Sillery, in 1827, the son of William Price, a timber baron in the Saguenay region. He joined his father's business, William Price and Company, in the Chicoutimi area. In 1867, with his brothers David Edward and Evans John, he started Price Brothers and Company, which took over the assets of his father's company. In 1872, he defeated Pierre-Alexis Tremblay for a seat in the House of Commons. Although Protestant, he supported the development of Catholic schools in the region. Betsiamites, Quebec
Pessamit (formerly Betsiamites, or Bersimis), is a First Nations reserve and Innu community in the Canadian province of Quebec, located about southwest from Baie-Comeau along the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River at the mouth of the Betsiamites River. It is across the river directly north of Rimouski, Quebec. It belongs to the Pessamit Innu Band. The reserve includes the communities of Betsiamites and Papinachois. Etymology It has been argued that the word Betsiamites could mean "those arriving by river". However, most authors today agree that the word came from the Innu root "Pessamit", meaning of "place where there are leeches or lampreys or sea eels". The dialect spoken at Mistissini uses the older form "upesciyâmîhc" as the locative noun referring to the town, and the form "upesciyâmîw-iyiniw" in reference to the people of Pessamit. Sawmill
A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logs are cut into lumber. Modern sawmills use a motorized saw to cut logs lengthwise to make long pieces, and crosswise to length depending on standard or custom sizes (dimensional lumber). Guillaume-Eugène Chinic (October 26, 1818 – April 28, 1889) was a Canadian businessman and politician. Born in Quebec City, he was one of the founders of the District Bank of Quebec (now the National Bank of Canada).
