Joop Beek
Josephus Beek SJ (Joop or Jopie) (12 March 1917 in Amsterdam – 17 September 1983 in Jakarta) was a Dutch and later Indonesian Jesuit, priest, educator and politician. From approximately 1965 until approximately 1975 he was a very important political consultant to the Indonesian president Suharto, but always remained in the shade. Joop Beek grew up in Amsterdam in a family with Indonesian connections. In 1935, he entered the Jesuit order in Mariëndaal in Grave in the Netherlands . In 1938, as was usual in this religious order, he was transferred to work in a Jesuit college, in his case in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. During the Second World War he was interned by the Japanese until 1945, and come liberation he was held for seven more months by the Indonesians. In 1946, he returned to the Netherlands, to Maastricht, to study for priesthood, was ordained in 1948 and again sent to Yogyakarta, where he stayed until 1959. Jusuf Wanandi
Jusuf Wanandi, a.k.a. Lim Bian Kie () is a Chinese-Indonesian politician and educator. Born in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, on November 15, 1937, he is an older brother of tycoon Sofjan Wanandi. Education After completing junior high school in Padang, Wanandi moved to Jakarta to enter the Jesuit Kanisius High School. He later entered the Faculty of Law of the University of Indonesia and graduated in 1960. Wanandi also took part in a Catholic leadership course taught by father Joop Beek. After finishing his high school studies, Wanandi taught at his own alma mater, Kanisius High School. He later became an assistant lecturer at the University of Indonesia, before becoming increasingly involved in politics in the 1960s. Cosmas Batubara
Cosmas Batubara (19 September 1938 – 8 August 2019) was an Indonesian politician. He was chairman and the co-founder of KAMI (Indonesia), KAMI, an Indonesian anti-communist student group. He was one of the strongest proponents for the banning of the Communist Party of Indonesia and the arrest of fifteen ministers, including Subandrio. Batubara was a parliament member in 1967–1978. He was appointed the Junior Minister of Housing in Suharto's Third Development Cabinet in 1978 and the State Minister of Housing in the 1983 Fourth Development Cabinet. In 1988, he was appointed the Minister of Manpower in the Fifth Development Cabinet. In 1991, he was appointed President of the International Labour Organization.
