John Considine (hurler)
John Considine (born 26 October 1964) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Glanmire, Cork, Considine first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Sullivan's Quay CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Cork under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 1988 championship. Considine subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, one Munster medal and one National Hurling League medal. At club level Considine played with Sarsfields. Throughout his career Considine made 8 championship appearances. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1993 championship. In retirement from playing Considine became involved in team management and coaching. Sarsfields GAA (Cork)
Sarsfields GAA is a hurling club is based in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of County Cork. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. They have won six County Championships, 1951, 1957, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. They have also won three Minor County Championships, 2007, 2008 and 2014. The club derives its name for the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan. County Championship history While the club reached a number of championship semi-finals prior to 1936, it wasn't until the 1936 Cork Senior Hurling Championship before the club contested their first final. Waterford IT GAA
Waterford IT GAA is the GAA club of the Waterford Institute of Technology, established in 1981. Its hurling team play in the Fitzgibbon Cup and Waterford Crystal Cup as well as Higher Education Leagues. Its football team play in the Sigerson Cup and McGrath Cup as well as Higher Education Leagues. It's camogie team competes in the Ashbourne Cup. The ladies Gaelic football team has competed in the O'Connor Cup. History In 1981, Waterford IT GAA consisted of one hurling team playing in Division 3. Dónal O'Grady
Dónal O'Grady (born 31 December 1953) is an Irish former hurler and manager. O'Grady had a successful playing career as a full-back at senior level with the Cork county team throughout the early 1980s. In a brief career he won one All-Ireland winner's medal, three Munster winner's medals and one National League winner's medal as captain. At club level, O'Grady was a double All-Ireland medalist with St Finbarr's. In addition to this he has also won three Munster club winners' medals and six county championship winners' medals. Following his retirement from playing he worked as a successful selector, coach and manager at all levels but most notably with the Cork and Limerick senior hurling teams. Gerald McCarthy (hurler)
Gerald McCarthy (born 12 September 1945) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. In his playing career he was known for his intelligent anticipation, his ability to find open space and his overhead striking of the ball. A versatile player who lined out in no less than eight different positions, McCarthy made his name as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the most skilful and stylish players of his generation and as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. Martin Naughton (hurler)
Martin Naughton (born 1964) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played senior hurling with his local club Turloughmore and with the Galway senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life Martin Naughton was born in Turloughmore, County Galway in 1964. He was educated locally at Cregmore national school where he was first introduced to the game of hurling. Naughton later attended the Presentation College in Athenry where he won a county school's medal. He later worked in the marketing department of a local oil company. Playing career Club Naughton played his club hurling with his local Turloughmore club and enjoyed much success. Ger Cunningham
Gerard Cunningham (born 30 August 1961) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who played for Cork Senior Championship club St Finbarr's. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for 20 years, during which time he lined out as a goalkeeper. Unchallenged in the number one position for his entire career, Cunningham is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Cunningham began his hurling career at club level with St Finbarr's. He broke onto the club's top adult team as a 17-year-old in 1979 and had his first success the following year when the club won the 1980 Munster Club Championship.
