Joaquim Carvalho (footballer)
Joaquim da Silva Carvalho (18 April 1937 – 5 April 2022) was a Portuguese footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Barreiro, Setúbal District, Carvalho started playing football with local Luso Futebol Clube, transferring in 1958 to Sporting CP where he remained the following 12 years, winning five major titles. He was in goal as the Lisbon side defeated MTK Budapest to conquer the 1963–64 edition of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Carvalho appeared in 251 matches with his main club, friendlies included. He retired in 1972 at the age of 35 after a spell with neighbouring Atlético Clube de Portugal, subsequently returning to Sporting as a goalkeeper coach. International career Carvalho played six times with the Portugal national team, making his debut on 31 October 1965 in a 0–0 draw with Czechoslovakia in the 1966 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Barreiro, Portugal
Barreiro () is a city and a municipality in Setúbal District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 78,764, in an area of 36.39 km2. Barreiro has a view of the city of Lisbon from Avenida da Praia and a riverside area called Alburrica. The mayor since 2017 has been Frederico Rosa, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 28. History There are records of the village of Barreiro from as far as the 13th century, when the Military Order of Saint James of the Sword promoted its settlement. Due to the village's location, the main occupation of the population was harvesting salt and fishing. By the time the Portuguese reached India and Brasil (early 16th century), it was in Barreiro that shipbuilding was concluded, since it started in Lisbon during summer and when the rougher weather arrived the construction had to be moved to somewhere with more sheltered conditions. Taça De Portugal
The Taça de Portugal (; "Cup of Portugal") is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Placard since the 2015–16 season. Organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since it was first held in 1938, the competition is open to professional and amateur clubs from the top-four league divisions. Matches are played from August–September to May–June, and the final is traditionally held at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, near Lisbon. The Primeira Liga (; English: Premier League, also written as Liga Portugal 1), also known as Liga Portugal Bwin for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of the Portuguese football league system. Organised and supervised by the Liga Portugal, it is contested by 18 teams since the 2014–15 season, with the three lowest placed teams relegated to the Liga Portugal 2 and replaced by the top-three non-reserve teams from this division. José Pereira (footballer)
José Costa Pereira MPIH (born 15 September 1931) is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was nicknamed ''Pássaro Azul'' (Blue Bird). Club career Born in Torres Vedras, Lisbon District, Pereira played at club level for C.F. Os Belenenses and S.C. Beira-Mar. He appeared in 302 Primeira Liga matches with the former, retiring with the latter at almost 40 and moving with his wife to Barcelona, completely removing himself from the football world. International career Pereira earned 11 caps for Portugal, making his debut on 19 April 1965 in a 1–0 away win over Turkey for the 1966 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the age of 33.
