Jefferson Sheard Architects
Jefferson Sheard Architects is a British architectural design firm based in Sheffield, Manchester, Peterborough and London. It was founded in 1958. The founding partners were Bryan Jefferson and Gerry Sheard. Bryan Jefferson was President of the RIBA in 1979–1981. One of the first projects by the practice in the 1960s was the Moore Street electricity substation in Sheffield which waGrade II Listed in 2013 The giant concrete building was illuminated in October 2011 as part of Urban Design Week, funded by National Grid. The practice has completed more projects in the city including the Sheffield City College which was highly commended in the sustainability category in the SCALA (Society of Chief Architects of Local Authorities) Awards 2011. Moore Street Electricity Substation
The Moore Street electricity substation is an electrical substation in Sheffield, England, designed by Jefferson Sheard in 1968. The substation is an example of Brutalist architecture. Owen Hatherley describes it as "a shocking paroxysm of a building, an explosion in reinforced concrete, a bunker built with an aesthete's attention to detail, a building which is genuinely Brutalist in both senses of the term." The Sheffield College is a large general further education college in Sheffield, England. The college has six campuses across the city and has 13,500 students enrolled (including 2,501 apprentices) as of 2021. John Clare
John Clare (13 July 1793 – 20 May 1864) was an English poet. The son of a farm labourer, he became known for his celebrations of the English countryside and sorrows at its disruption. His work underwent major re-evaluation in the late 20th century; he is now often seen as a major 19th-century poet. His biographer Jonathan Bate called Clare "the greatest labouring-class poet that England has ever produced. South Cheshire College is a former further education college, located in Crewe, Cheshire, England. The College was a single campus situated in a residential area about one mile from Crewe town centre. Waverley Market (formerly also known as Waverley Shopping Centre, Princes Mall, and Waverley Mall) is a shopping centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. The old Waverley Market The old Waverley Market occupied the same site as the current shopping centre. The location is in the city centre, on a plot bordered by Waverley Bridge, Princes Street , the Balmoral Hotel and Edinburgh Waverley railway station. Before construction of the railways in Edinburgh, a fruit and vegetable market was located under North Bridge. When the present Waverley station was constructed, this fruit and vegetable market was moved to what is now Waverley Market in 1869.
