Juri River
The Juri River is a trans-boundary river in India and Bangladesh. It rises in the Jampui Hills of the Indian state of Tripura. It enters Kulaura Upazila of Maulvi Bazar District of Bangladesh. Jampui Hills
Jampui Hills is a part of the Mizo hills (Lushai Hills) range located in the North Tripura district in the north eastern part of the Indian state of Tripura. The average altitude of the hill range is approximately 1000 metres above sea level. Geography The Jampui Hills stretch from North to South and are bordering the state Mizoram in the east. 930 m high Betalongchhip, also known as Betlingchhip, Balinchhip and Thaidawr, is the highest point in Tripura. There are 10 small villages in Jampui hills and most of the inhabitants are the Mizo community. The villages are (from North to South) Vaisam, Hmawngchuan, Hmunpui, Tlaksih, Vanghmun, Behliangchhip, Bangla Zion, Tlangsang, Sabual and Phuldungsei. Kulaura Upazila
Kulaura ( bn, কুলাউড়া) is the biggest upazila (subdistrict) of the Moulvibazar District in north-eastern Bangladesh. The total area of this upazila is 545 km2. Hakaluki Haor, the largest marsh wetland in Sylhet and one of the largest in Bangladesh is partially located there. Maulvi Bazar District
Moulvibazar ( bn, মৌলভীবাজার) also spelled Maulvibazar, Moulavibazar, and Maulavibazar, (former South Sylhet) is the southeastern district of Sylhet Division in northeastern Bangladesh, named after the town of Moulvibazar. It is bordered by the Indian states of Tripura and Assam to the south and east, respectively; and by the Bangladeshi districts of Habiganj to the west and Sylhet to the north. Juri Upazila
Juri ( bn, জুড়ী) is an upazila of the Moulvibazar District. In 2001, its population was 122,853. It is located 48 km from District headquarters. The local high school was established in 1930. History After the Conquest of Sylhet in 1303, many disciples of Shah Jalal migrated to Juri where they preached the religion of Islam to the local people. Shah Gharib Khaki settled in Bhogtera, Jayfarnagar where his mazar remains and likewise for Shah Abdul-Aliyy Nimatra in Fultola Bazaar, Hazrat Irani in Dakshinbhag and Shah Qasimuddin Jibon Jyoti. During the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, freedom fighters conducted operations in various tea gardens across modern-day Juri.
