Junger Tag
Germany was represented by Danish singer Gitte Hænning, with the song "Junger Tag", at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 7 April in Luxembourg City. "Junger Tag" was the winner of the German national final, ''Ein Lied für Luxemburg'', held on 21 February. Before Eurovision Ein Lied für Luxemburg The final was held at the TV studios in Frankfurt, hosted by Edith Grobleben. Six acts took part, each performing two songs. Songs were voted on by a 10-member jury who each awarded between 1 and 5 points per song. Unlike in the previous year's final, the result of which had caused a degree of controversy, there was no elimination and revote on the top songs. "Junger Tag" emerged the winner by just 1 point over "Sebastian" performed by Tonia, who had been the Belgian Eurovision representative in 1966. Gitte Hænning
Gitte Hænning (born 29 June 1946) is a Danish singer and film actress, who rose to fame as a child star in the 1950s. She was known primarily monomously (without a surname) in Europe. She moved to Sweden in 1958. Her first hit in Swedish was "Tror du jag ljuger" from 1961. As a teenager, Gitte sang popular hits in German, English, Italian (4 songs: "Amo Johnny", "Parla", "La mela", and "Il ricordo", recorded on two singles), and Danish. She had five different number one hits in three countries: one in Denmark, two in Sweden, and two in Germany. Her first German number one song was "Ich will 'nen Cowboy als Mann". This recording sold 1.05 million copies by mid 1965, earning Gitte a gold disc. 1973 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1973 was the 18th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, following the country's victory at the with the song " Après toi" by Vicky Leandros. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Télédiffusion (CLT), the contest was held at the Grand Théâtre on 7 April 1973 and was hosted by German television presenter Helga Guitton. Seventeen countries took part in the contest this year, with and deciding not to participate, and competing for the first time. Germany was represented by Mary Roos, with the song "Nur die Liebe läßt uns leben", at the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 25 March in Edinburgh. Tonia (born Arlette Antoine Dominicus, 25 July 1947, Anderlecht) is a Belgian singer, best known for her participation in the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Tonia released her first single, "Mon p'tit copain de vacances", in 1963, and went on to release numerous further singles. She would often record both Dutch and French cover versions of popular German songs. Roberto Blanco (legal name: Roberto Zerquera Blanco), was born 7 June 1937 in Tunis, Tunisia. Of Afro-Cuban origin, Blanco is a German Schlager singer, actor, and entertainer. Early life Blanco is the son of Cuban folklorist and artist Alfonso Zerquera and his wife Mercedes Blanco. He grew up in Beirut and Madrid. When Roberto was two, his mother died. After finishing school he began to study medicine in Madrid, but quit after two semesters. Career In 1957, Blanco played a role in the movie ''Der Stern von Afrika'' (The Star of Africa). Cindy and Bert were a German schlager vocal duo from Völklingen, Saarland consisting of Jutta Gusenberger (born 26 January 1948) and Norbert Berger (12 September 1945 – 14 July 2012). They were most successful in the 1970s, and are known for their participation in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Gusenberger and Berger started singing together in 1965, and were married in 1967.
