Juan Nepomuceno Machado is considered to be the father of the Mexican community of Mazatlan. He was a merchant from the Philippines who traded in fabric, pearls and silver. Sinaloa (), officially the Estado Libre y Soberano de Sinaloa ( en, Free and Sovereign State of Sinaloa), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the Administrative divisions of Mexico, Federal Entities of Mexico. Concordia, Sinaloa
Concordia is a city and its surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The town is noted for manufacture of artesinal wooden furniture, symbolized by the giant chair in the town plaza. According to 2010 census, it had a population of 8,328 inhabitants. Founded as Villa de San Sebastián in 1565 by Francisco de Ibarra, Concordia was originally a center of gold, silver and copper mining. The main church, San Sebastián, was built in 1785 with an ornate baroque facade. Concordia is about an hour's travel southeast of Mazatlán, on the highway to Durango. It stands at . Copala, Sinaloa
Copala, formerly known as San José de Copala, is a four-century-old silver-mining town in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The town is in the municipality of Concordia. History The area was occupied and ruled by the indigenous peoples until 1564, when Francisco de Ibarra crossed the Sierra Madre Occidental from Durango and conquered the area for Spain. In 1565 prospectors discovered silver veins and the town of Copala was founded to serve the mines. The town was named after a mythical city of gold for which de Ibarra had unsuccessfully searched in northern Mexico. Plazuela Machado
The Plazuela Machado is a public park in the historic centre of Mazatlán, Mexico. It is one of the oldest parks in the city. The plaza is the first urban space that was designed as a recreational area in Mazatlán. History It was built in 1837 by Juan Nepomuceno Machado, a merchant of fabrics, silver and pearls. He would later donate the land to the city under the condition that it be used to establish a public plaza. On July 12, 1852, Francisco de la Vega, then governor of Sinaloa, marched to the limits of the city with 250 soldiers, two cannons and weapons and prepared to take command of Mazatlán, but it was too much hatred what this governor had provoked among the Mazatlecos who, despite only having 60 men, the citizens joined the battle that took place on the land that is currently Plazuela Machado and its surroundings.
