A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadian province of Ontario. Joseph Marceau
Joseph Henri Marceau (October 29, 1879 – April 9, 1955) was an Ontario contractor and political figure. He represented Nipissing in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1919 to 1923 and from 1935 to 1937 as a Liberal member. He was born in Pont-Rouge, Quebec, the son of Hypolite Marceau, and was educated in North Bay, Ontario. In 1900, he married Elida Seguin. Marceau was a general contractor and was also involved in the timber trade. He also served as a member of the town council for North Bay from 1909 to 1912. Marceau was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1914. Nipissing is a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Ontario, which elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It is located in the northeastern part of Ontario, centred on the city of North Bay. History The district was first contested in the 1890 election, but was divided into the separate districts of Nipissing East and Nipissing West for the 1902 election. By 1908, however, demographic changes resulted in Nipissing West being divided into two new districts, Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls, and the single riding of Nipissing was thus reconstituted and has been represented consistently in the Legislative Assembly ever since. Sainte-Justine-de-Newton () is a municipality located in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 947. The municipality is situated on Route 325 south of Très-Saint-Rédempteur, just east of the Ontario border. History In 1805, the geographic township of Newton was created, likely named after Newton Abbot in England. In 1845, the Township Municipality of Newton was formed, but abolished in 1847. In 1855, it was reestablished as the Parish Municipality of Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, combining the names of the parish and the geographic township. In 1865, its post office opened. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District, and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing. North Bay developed as a railroad centre, and its airport was an important military location during the Cold War. History The site of North Bay is part of a historic canoe route where Samuel de Champlain took a party up the Ottawa River, through present-day Mattawa, on to Trout Lake and via the La Vase Creek to Lake Nipissing. Apart from Indigenous people, voyageurs and surveyors, there was little activity in the Lake Nipissing area until the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1882. Franco-Ontarians (french: Franco-Ontariens or if female, sometimes known as ''Ontarois'' and ''Ontaroises'') are Francophone Canadians that reside in the province of Ontario. Most are French Canadians from Ontario. In 2016, the Government of Ontario calculated that there are approximately 622,415 francophones residing in the province.
