Jorge Luiz Fernandes Leite (born 3 April 1962 in Rio de Janeiro) is a former international freestyle swimmer from Brazil, who participated in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1980. Participated at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships in West Berlin, where he finished 24th in the 100-metre freestyle, and 31st in the 200-metre freestyle. He was at the 1979 Pan American Games, in San Juan. He won a silver medal in the 4×200-metre freestyle. He also finished 6th in the 100-metre freestyle. He broke the South American record of the 4×200-metre freestyle. Fernandes won the bronze medal in the men's 4×200-metre freestyle relay event at the 1980 Summer Olympics, alongside Marcus Mattioli, Cyro Delgado, and Djan Madruga, with a time of 7:29.30. Jorge Filipe Oliveira Fernandes (born 2 April 1997) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Vitória S.C. as a central defender. George Fernandes
George Mathew Fernandes (3 June 1930 – 29 January 2019) was an Indian trade unionist, statesman, and journalist, who served as the 22nd Defence Minister of India from 1998 until 2004. He was a member of Lok Sabha for over 30 years, starting from Bombay (present-day Mumbai) in 1967 till 2009 mostly representing constituencies from Bihar. He was a key member of the Janata Dal and the founder of the Samata Party, now led by Uday Mandal its President. He held several ministerial portfolios including communication , industry, railways, and defence. In 2020, he was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award.
