John W. Morgan
John W. Morgan, (born May 7, 1964), is a Canadian lawyer, politician, and businessman. He was the mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CRBM) in Nova Scotia from 2000 to 2012. Morgan is a graduate of the University College of Cape Breton and St. Francis Xavier University, where he received a bachelor of science degree, majoring in chemistry and minoring in mathematics. He attended Dalhousie University, where he obtained a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in law under the combined MBA/LLB degree program, graduating in 1990. First elected in October 2000, Morgan has since been re-elected twice (in 2004 and 2008) with over 80% of the votes cast. Morgan filed a lawsuit on behalf of CBRM against the Government of Nova Scotia alleging unequal per capita provincial funding for his municipality. Cape Breton Regional Municipality
Cape Breton Regional Municipality (often referred to as simply "CBRM") is the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's second largest municipality and the economic heart of Cape Breton Island. As of 2016 the municipality has a population of 94,285. The municipality was created in 1995 through the amalgamation of eight municipalities located in Cape Breton County. Nova Scotia New Democratic Party
The Nova Scotia New Democratic Party is a social-democratic, progressive provincial party in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the provincial entity of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP). It was founded as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in 1932, and became the New Democratic Party in 1961. It became the governing party of Nova Scotia following the 2009 Nova Scotia election, winning 31 seats in the Legislature, under the leadership of Premier Darrell Dexter. It is the first New Democratic Party in Atlantic Canada to form a government, and the second to form a government in a province east of Manitoba. The party lost government at the 2013 election, losing 24 seats, including Dexter's seat. Glace Bay-Dominion
Glace Bay-Dominion is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The Member of the Legislative Assembly since 2021 is John White of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. It was created in 1933 when the district of Cape Breton was divided into five electoral districts, one of which was named Cape Breton East. In 2001, the district name was changed to Glace Bay. David Nelson Muise (September 22, 1949 – November 2, 2017) was a Canadian politician. He was mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia from 1997 to 2000. He also represented the electoral district of Cape Breton West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1981. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party.
