John Joseph Hawkins
John Joseph Hawkins (1840 – June 2, 1916) was a grocer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Bothwell in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1884 as a Liberal-Conservative member. He was born in Brantford, Upper Canada, the son of John Hawkins and Mary Macdougall, and was educated there. In 1862, Hawkins married Ellen M. Harrington. Bothwell (electoral District)
Bothwell was a federal and provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Ontario, which was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1904 and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1867 to 1875. It is sometimes also considered one of Ontario's historic counties, as it was listed in some post-Confederation census records as a county of residence. Federal district At its creation in 1867, Bothwell consisted of the Kent County townships of Bothwell, Camden, Dresden, Howard, Orford, Ridgetown, Thamesville and Zone, and the Lambton County townships of Dawn, Euphemia and Sombra. David Mills (Canadian Politician)
David Mills, (March 18, 1831 – May 8, 1903) was a Canadian politician, author, poet and puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. He was born in Palmyra, in southwestern Upper Canada (now Ontario). His father, Nathaniel Mills, was one of the first settlers in the area. Mills served as superintendent of schools for Kent County from 1856 to 1865. He then attended the University of Michigan School of law, graduating with honors in 1867 with an LL.B degree. He published ''The Present and Future Political Aspects of Canada'' in 1860 and ''The Blunders of the Dominion Government in connection with the North-West Territory'' in 1871. Mills was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) in the 1867 federal election and re-elected in four subsequent votes until being defeated in the 1882 election. The 1878 Canadian federal election was held on September 17, 1878 to elect members of the House of Commons of the 4th Parliament of Canada.
