Johan Carlsson (tennis)
Johan Carlsson (born 29 January 1966) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Career Carlsson reached his first and only final on tour in the 1986 Japan Open, finishing runner-up. His previous best performance had come at the same tournament a year earlier, when he made the semi-finals. In 1986 he was also a quarter-finalist at Washington He defeated both Slobodan Živojinović and countryman Tobias Svantesson in the 1988 US Open, to make the third round, where he was knocked out of the tournament by Stefan Edberg. It was his best showing in a Grand Slam. In 1989 he made the quarter-finals at Nancy and along the way defeated top seed Darren Cahill. Carlsson reached two further quarter-finals in 1991, in Tel Aviv and Washington. He had wins over two top 20 players during his career. Linköping () is a city in southern Sweden, with around 105,000 inhabitants as of 2021. It is the seat of Linköping Municipality and the capital of Östergötland County. ATP Tel Aviv
The Tel Aviv Open is an ATP World Tour affiliated tennis tournament. It was played from 1978 through 1981 and 1983 through 1996 and was to be resumed in 2014, marking the end of the tournament in St. Petersburg, however, the 2014 edition was cancelled due to security concerns arising from the ongoing war with the neighboring Gaza Strip, the event was scrapped permanently in 2015. On June 21, 2022, it was announced that the tournament would take place in 2022, albeit in a different venue than previous editions. The tournament is held at the Israel Tennis Center in the Tel Aviv District city of Ramat HaSharon, Israel and is played on outdoor hard courts. The tournament was played as an ATP Challenger Series event in 1978, 1998 and 1999. Israeli tennis player Amos Mansdorf appeared in the final five times, winning in 1987, making him the only Israeli to win the event. Shigeru Ota
Shigeru Ota ( ja, 太田 茂; born 8 January 1967) is a Japanese former professional tennis player. Ota appeared in four Davis Cup ties for Japan between 1988 and 1990, winning one singles and one doubles rubber. In 1990 he played in one of the longest fifth sets in Davis Cup history, which he and Shuzo Matsuoka lost 16–18 to India's Zeeshan Ali and Leander Paes. Shuzo Matsuoka
is a retired Japanese professional tennis player, sports commentator, and entertainer. A former Wimbledon quarter-finalist, Matsuoka won one singles title during his career, in Seoul in 1992. In the same year, he reached a career-high ranking of world No. 46. Professional career Matsuoka turned professional in 1986. In 1989, he finished runner-up in the top-level tournament at Wellington, and captured the doubles title in Auckland. 1991 saw Matsuoka achieve his career-best Masters result, when he reached the quarter-finals of the 1991 Canada Masters in Montreal, beating Michael Chang in a dramatic 3-set battle en route. David Lewis (tennis)
David Lewis (born 3 September 1964) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. He is a younger brother of 1983 Wimbledon finalist Chris Lewis and of Mark Lewis. He spent his childhood in Auckland and was educated at St Peter's College. Career Lewis and partner Tony Withers won the boys' doubles title in the 1981 Australian Open. He was a singles quarter-finalist in the boys' singles at the 1982 Australian Open and also won the New Zealand National Championships for the 18s age group that year. Most successful as a doubles player, Lewis was a runner-up in the 1990 Geneva Open with Neil Borwick. Shahar Perkiss (born 14 October 1962) is an Israeli right-handed former professional tennis player. He reached his best singles ranking of world # 53 in March 1985. He peaked at world # 54 in the doubles rankings in November 1985. Perkiss won the silver medal in singles in tennis at the 1989 Maccabiah Games, but won the gold medal in doubles playing alongside Boaz Merenstein. Igor Flego
Igor Flego (born 13 December 1961) is a former professional tennis player from Croatia who represented Yugoslavia. Biography Flego made his debut for the Yugoslavia Davis Cup team in 1986 as a member of the side which played a World Group Quarter-final tie against Czechoslovakia in Sarajevo. He played the doubles match with Slobodan Zivojinovic, which they lost, then went down to Miloslav Mečíř in a dead singles rubber. In 1987 he appeared again in Davis Cup competition when he played a doubles match in Yugoslavia's World Group tie in Adelaide. Peter Svensson (born 6 January 1961) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Biography Svensson received a tennis scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, after which he completed an MBA at the University of Texas at Tyler. Most of his top level tour matches were in doubles, in which he was ranked as high as 77 in the world. He had his best year in 1985 when he made the semi-finals of five Grand Prix tournaments. During his career he won a total of seven Challenger doubles titles. As a singles player he reached two Challenger finals and competed in the 1988 Swedish Open, held in Bastad. Travemünde
Travemünde () is a borough of Lübeck, Germany, located at the mouth of the river Trave in Bay of Lübeck, Lübeck Bay. Ramesh Krishnan
Ramesh Krishnan (born 5 June 1961) is a tennis coach and former professional tennis player from India. As a junior player in the late 1970s, he won the singles titles at both, Wimbledon and the French Open. He went on to reach three Grand Slam quarterfinals in the 1980s and was a part of the Indian team captained by Vijay Amritraj which reached the final of the Davis Cup in 1987 against Sweden. Krishnan also beat then-world No. 1, Mats Wilander, at the 1989 Australian Open. He became India's Davis Cup captain in 2007. MaliVai "Mal" Washington ( ) (born June 20, 1969) is an American former professional tennis player. He reached the men's singles final at Wimbledon in 1996, won four ATP titles and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 11 in October 1992.
