Joaquim Ferreira (rugby Union)
Joaquim Vaz Ferreira (born April 27, 1973 in Porto) is a former Portuguese rugby union footballer. Career The Portuguese prop played all his career for CDUP, since he was 17 years old. He is currently the most capped player from his country, having played 84 games for Portugal national team, with 3 tries scored, 15 points in aggregate, from 1993 to 2007. His first match was on April 3, 1993, in a 41-13 loss to Romania, in Lisbon. Ferreira played in three games at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, scoring a try against Romania, in a 14-10 loss, in what would be his last competitive match. He was the captain of that same game due to Vasco Uva's absence. He retired from rugby after the tournament, aged 34. Tomaz Morais
Tomaz Eduardo Carvalho Morais (born 6 April 1970 in Lobito, Angola) is a Portuguese rugby union coach and a former player. Life and career The son of Portuguese settlers in Angola, Morais moved to Portugal following the 25 April 1974 revolution. He went on to become a Physical Education teacher and a rugby union player, playing as a centre for Cascais. He took some time off from the sport because of his studies, but later returned to play for Direito. He won 6 titles of the National Championship and 2 Iberian Cups. Morais won 20 caps for Portugal national rugby union team, scoring a try, from 1991 to 1995. He had to retire from rugby in 1996 due to a serious injury. He took the opportunity to start a career as a rugby coach, first at Direito. Vasco Maria Nunes Barata de Sousa Uva (born 15 December 1982 in Lisbon) is a former Portuguese rugby union player. He played as a number eight. He took his law degree at the Catholic University of Portugal, in Lisbon, and he works as a lawyer. Club career In Portugal he played for Grupo Desportivo Direito. He played briefly for Montpellier Hérault RC in the top division of French rugby, the Top 14 with his brother Gonçalo Uva, which he joined in January 2008. He soon moved back to Direito, where he was the captain, until finishing his career at 2017/18. He also played for Lusitanos XV at international level. 2007 Rugby World Cup
The 2007 Rugby World Cup was the sixth Rugby World Cup, a quadrennial international rugby union competition inaugurated in 1987. Twenty nations competed for the Webb Ellis Cup in the tournament, which was hosted by France from 7 September to 20 October. France won the hosting rights in 2003, beating a bid from England. The competition consisted of 48 matches over 44 days; 42 matches were played in ten cities throughout France, as well as four in Cardiff, Wales, and two in Edinburgh, Scotland. The eight quarter-finalists from 2003 were granted automatic qualification, while 12 other nations gained entry through the regional qualifying competitions that began in 2004 – of them, Portugal was the only World Cup debutant.
