Joan Maria Vendrell Martínez (born 4 August 1976) is a Catalunyan ski mountaineer. Vendrell was born in Barcelona. He started ski mountaineering in 1992 and competed first in the ''Ransol-Serrera'' race in 1993. He has been member of the national team since 2006 and lives in Broto. Manuel "Manu" Pérez Brunicardi (born 22 August 1978) is a Spanish ski mountaineer. Pérez was born in Segovia. He started ski mountaineering in 1995 and competed first in 1996. Kílian Jornet (; born 27 October 1987) is a Spanish professional sky runner, trail runner, ski mountaineer and long-distance runner. He is a six-time champion of the long-distance running Skyrunner World Series and has won some of the most prestigious ultramarathons, including the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, Grand Raid, the Western States Endurance Run and the Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run. Jornet holds the fastest known time speed record for the ascent and descent of major mountains including the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. The Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG) is a ski mountaineering race organised every two years by the Swiss Armed Forces, in which military and civilian teams compete. It takes place once every two years at the end of April, in the south part of the canton of Valais below the summits of the Pennine Alps. Vertical Race
A Vertical Race is a special kind of ski mountaineering without the typical downhill skiing after ascending. At the mountain running and climbing passages the runners have to carry their skis in their backpacks.
