Joan Charmant
Joan Charmant (born 4 June 1978 in Bordeaux) is a retired French high jumper. He finished fifth at the 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships – Men's high jump, 2002 European Indoor Championships and won the silver medal at the Athletics at the 2003 Summer Universiade – Men's high jump, 2003 Summer Universiade He also competed at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's high jump, 2004 World Indoor Championships without reaching the final. Charmant became French champion in 2003 and French indoor champion in 2004. His personal best was 2.24 metres, achieved in July 2003 in Narbonne. Indoors he had 2.28 metres, achieved in February 2004 in Aubière. High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing. Since ancient times, competitors have introduced increasingly effective techniques to arrive at the current form, and the current universally preferred method is the Fosbury Flop, in which athletes run towards the bar and leap head first with their back to the bar. The discipline is, alongside the pole vault, one of two vertical clearance events in the Olympic athletics program. It is contested at the World Championships in Athletics and the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and is a common occurrence at track and field meets. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade will be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU, en, International University Sports Federation) is responsible for the organization and governance of worldwide sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25. It was founded in 1949 as the world governing body of national university sports organizations and currently has 174 member associations (National University Sport Federations) from five continents.
