Jim Madaffer
Jim Madaffer (born March 4, 1960) is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and former politician. He served two terms as Chief of staff to a City Councilmember and was elected to the San Diego City Council from 2000 to 2008. Jim has also served in a variety of leadership roles including Deputy Mayor. He was appointed to the California Transportation Commission by Gov. Jerry Brown and also serves on the board of the San Diego County Water Authority. In 2019, Madaffer was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the Colorado River Board of California. Jim currently serves as CEO of Madaffer Enterprises, Inc., a public policy and government relations firm. San Diego City Council
The San Diego City Council is the legislative branch of government for the city of San Diego, California. The city council was first established in San Diego in 1850. The council uses a strong mayor system with a separately elected mayor who acts as the executive. There are currently nine members of the council. City council members serve a four-year term and are limited to two successive terms. History San Diego was first incorporated as a city government with a common council on March 27, 1850. Gavin Newsom
Gavin Christopher Newsom (born October 10, 1967) is an American politician and businessman who has been the 40th governor of California since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 49th lieutenant governor of California from 2011 to 2019 and the 42nd mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. Newsom attended Redwood High School and graduated from Santa Clara University. After graduation, he founded the PlumpJack wine store with billionaire heir and family friend, Gordon Getty, as an investor. ''The Mission Times Courier'' is a monthly community newspaper published in San Diego, California, by Mission Publishing Group, LLC. The newspaper was founded May 11, 1995, by Sally and Jim Madaffer. On July 1, 2014, it was purchased by David Mannis, publisher of the San Diego Community News Network, Inc. In April of 2019 the paper was sold to Julie Main, publisher of the San Diego Community Newspaper Group. 2004 San Diego City Council Election
The 2004 San Diego City Council election occurred on November 2, 2004. The primary election was held on March 2, 2004. Four of the eight seats of the San Diego City Council were contested. This election used the boundaries created by the 2000 Redistricting Committee for the odd-numbered districts. All four incumbent council members ran for reelection in their respective districts. Municipal elections in California are officially non-partisan, although most candidates do identify a party preference. A two-round system was used for the election, starting with a primary in March followed by a runoff in November between the top-two candidates if no candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round. San Diego County Water Authority
San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) is a wholesale supplier of water to the roughly western third of San Diego County, California. The Water Authority was formed in 1944 by the California State Legislature. SDCWA serves 24 member agencies with 36 Board of Director members. In addition to local water sources, water is imported from the Colorado River and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta through The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. SDCWA is the sole recipient of fresh water produced by the Claude "Bud" Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant.
