Mission Times Courier
''The Mission Times Courier'' is a monthly community newspaper published in San Diego, California, by Mission Publishing Group, LLC. The newspaper was founded May 11, 1995, by Sally and Jim Madaffer. On July 1, 2014, it was purchased by David Mannis, publisher of the San Diego Community News Network, Inc. In April of 2019 the paper was sold to Julie Main, publisher of the San Diego Community Newspaper Group. The Mission Times Courier carries news of local community interest covering the San Diego communities of Mission Gorge, Mission Trails, Fletcher Hills, Allied Gardens, Del Cerro, Grantville, Rolando, San Carlos and surrounding areas. Approximately 4,800 ''Mission Times Courier'' newspapers are distributed to over 120 high-traffic locations. An additional 21,000 copies are directly delivered door-to-door to homes in these communities. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. Mission Trails Regional Park is a open space preserve within the city of San Diego, California, established in 1974. It is the sixth-largest municipally owned park in the United States, and the largest in California. Description The park consists mostly of rugged canyons and hills, with both natural and developed recreation areas, including beautiful flowers. It is the seventh-largest open space urban park in the United States, consisting of nearly . The highest point is Cowles Mountain, which is also the highest point in the city of San Diego. Allied Gardens
Allied Gardens is a residential neighborhood in the eastern Navajo community of San Diego, California. It neighbors San Carlos to the east, Del Cerro to the south, the College Area to the southeast and Grantville to the southwest. History Allied Gardens was developed by Louis L. Kelton and Walter Bollenbacher in 1955. They purchased the from the Waring estate. Their original business name was the Allied Contractors, hence the name. Facilities The Allied Gardens Recreation Center and Allied Gardens Pool are located on Greenbrier Avenue, next to Lewis Middle School. Del Cerro
Del Cerro (Spanish for "of the hill") is a hilly residential neighborhood of approximately 2,300 residents in the eastern part of San Diego, California. Del Cerro borders the communities of San Carlos, Allied Gardens, College Area, Grantville, and the city of La Mesa, and is adjacent to Lake Murray and San Diego State University. For planning purposes the city includes it in the Navajo community planning area. History The Del Cerro area was developed as a residential suburb during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
