Ernie Jessen
Ernest Robert Jessen (May 1, 1905 – September 23, 1987) was an American football tackle who played one season for the Cleveland Indians of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Iowa. Jessen was born on May 1, 1905, in Dickinson, North Dakota. He attended high school in Waseca, Minnesota. Afterwards he played college football at University of Iowa. Jessen spent 1925 to 1928 at Iowa, before attempting a wrestling career in 1929. In 1931, he returned to American football by playing with the newly formed Cleveland Indians. As the team's starting tackle, Jessen played in 8 games, starting 6. The Indians folded following the season, ending his professional football career. Knud Jessen
Knud Jessen (29 November 1884 – 14 April 1971) was a Danish botanist and quaternary geologist. Biography Jessen was born at Frederiksberg, Denmark. He was a student at the University of Copenhagen and was awarded cand.mag. in natural history and geography with botany as a major in 1911. He was state geologist 1917–1931. In 1931, he succeeded C.H. Ostenfeld as professor of botany at the University of Copenhagen and director of the Copenhagen Botanical Garden, a position he held until his retirement in 1955. His scientific works mainly concern vegetation history during the Eemian interglacial, the late glacial period of the Wisconsin glaciation and in the Holocene investigated using pollen analysis. Vice Admiral Karl Johann Peter Jessen (russian: Карл Петрович Иессен, tr. ; 30 June 1852 – 30 November 1918) was a Baltic German admiral in the Imperial Russian Navy during the Russo-Japanese War. Biography Jessen was of Danish descent, born in Livonia, where his father, Hans Peter Boje Jessen was a doctor of veterinary medicine. Ida Jessen (born 25 September 1964 in Sønderjylland) is a Danish author and translator who writes in both Danish and Norwegian. Jessen was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize and has won several awards for her work. She is a member of the Danish Academy and a recipient of the Lifetime Award from the Danish Arts Foundation. Gianna Jessen (born April 6, 1977) is an American anti-abortion activist. She was born during a failed instillation abortion attempt. The 2011 film ''October Baby'' was loosely based on Jessen's life. Early life Jessen was born April 6, 1977, in Los Angeles, California. Her medical records indicate that she was born in the 30th week of pregnancy to a 17-year-old girl during a failed saline abortion. Jessen's birth certificate is signed by the doctor who was performing the abortion. Jessen weighed at birth, and was born with cerebral palsy, a motor condition that affects various areas of body movement, which she says was caused by the abortion attempt. Gene Nora Stumbough Jessen (born 1937) is an American Aircraft pilot, aviator and a member of Mercury 13. Jessen worked throughout her career as a flight instructor, demonstration pilot, advisor to the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and president of the Ninety-Nines. Jessen has also written about flying and the history of women in flight. Together with Wally Funk, Jessen is one of the last two surviving members of Mercury 13. Biography Jessen grew up in Chicago. Carl Wilhelm Jessen
Carl Wilhelm Jessen (10 July 1764 – 30 March 1823) was a Danish naval officer and Governor of St Thomas in the Danish West Indies. Career Carl Wilhelm Jessen was a Danish-Norwegian naval officer and the son of Councillor of State Nicolai Jacob Jessen and Marie Christine Jacobi. Jessen became a naval cadet in 1776. He was commissioned as a junior lieutenant in the navy in 1782, and then was promoted senior lieutenant in 1789, commander in 1796, captain in 1803, senior captain in 1810, and commodore in 1815. He left naval service as a rear admiral in 1822. He then became Governor of the island of St Thomas in the Danish West Indies.
