Jens Steinigen
Jens Steinigen (born 2 September 1966) is a former East German and German biathlete. He started his career in 1984, and became junior world champion. Due to the sporting problems in the DDR he failed to qualify for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. He won with the German relay team together with Ricco Groß, Mark Kirchner and Fritz Fischer at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville the gold medal. The following year he did again win a medal with the German relay team this time a bronze medal at the World Championships. After his career as biathlete Steinigen became a courtlawyer. Oberhof, Germany
Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Located in the Thuringian Forest mountain range, it is a winter sports center and health resort. With 1,625 inhabitants (December 2016), it is visited by 144,000 tourists every year (2016). The town obtained its official city status in 1985. Ruhpolding
Ruhpolding is the municipality with the biggest area of the Traunstein district in southeastern Bavaria, Germany. It is situated in the south of the Chiemgau region in the Alps and next to the Austrian border. Ruhpolding has a biathlon track. It hosted the 1979, 1985, 1996 and 2012 Biathlon World Championships. The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 Biathlon World Cup, 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup, 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 Biathlon World Cup, 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans. Competition and format The World Cup season lasts from November or December to late March, with meetings in a different venue every week excluding some holidays and a couple of weeks before the season's major championships (World Championships or Winter Olympics). Hochfilzen
Hochfilzen is a town and municipality in the Kitzbühel district of the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is located in the Pillersee valley 5 km east of Fieberbrunn. Population was 1,147 in 2016. The 1991–92 Biathlon World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season of biathlon, organised by the UIPMB ( Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne et Biathlon). The season started on 19 December 1991 in Hochfilzen, Austria, and ended on 22 March 1992 in Novosibirsk, Russia. It was the 15th season of the Biathlon World Cup. The men's individual and women's sprint were moved from Holmenkollen, Norway to Skrautvål, Norway, due to rain and fog, with the planned relays being cancelled.
