Jarosław Mikołajewski
Jarosław Mikołajewski (born 20 March 1960 in Warsaw) is a Polish poet, writer and translator of the Italian language. He is also the author of children's books, essayist and journalist. Life and career Between 1983-1998, he worked at the Faculty of Italian Studies of the University of Warsaw. Since 1998, he has been working for the '' Gazeta Wyborcza'' daily newspaper. Between 2006-2012, he served as head of the Polish Institute in Rome. His books were published in Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, United States, Hungary, United Kingdom. His work is also translated to following languages: Albanian, German, Spanish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Czech, Ukrainian, Greek. He translated among others: Dante, Petrarch, Michelangelo, Leopardi, Montale, Ungaretti, Luzi, Penna, Pavese, Pasolini. Mario Luzi
Mario Luzi (20 October 1914 – 28 February 2005) was an Italian poet. Biography Born in Castello, near Sesto Fiorentino, Luzi's parents, Ciro Luzi and Margherita Papini, hailed from Samprugnano (later Semproniano). He spent his youth in Castello, where he started his primary school. In Florence he studied at the ''liceo classico'' Galileo, and also in Florence he obtained his degree in French literature with a final dissertation about François Mauriac. This was an important period for Luzi. He met poets such as Piero Bigongiari, Alessandro Parronchi, Carlo Bo, Leone Traverso, and the critic Oreste Macrì. Zuzanna Ginczanka
Zuzanna Ginczanka, ''pen name'' of Zuzanna Polina Gincburg (March 22, 1917 – January 1945) was a Polish-Jewish poet of the interwar period. Although she published only a single collection of poetry in her lifetime, the book ''O centaurach'' (''On Centaurs'', 1936) created a sensation in Poland's literary circles. She was arrested and executed in Kraków shortly before the end of World War II. Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński (23 January 1905 – 6 December 1953), alias ''Karakuliambro'', was a Polish poet. He is well known for the "paradramatic" absurd humorous sketches of the ''Green Goose Theatre''. Biography Born to a lower-middle-class family in Warsaw, Gałczyński was evacuated with his parents at the outbreak of World War I, and from 1914 to 1918 he lived in Moscow, where he attended a Polish school. The Beata Pawlak Memorial Award (Polish: ''Nagroda im. Beaty Pawlak'') is an annual Polish literary prize founded in 2003 and awarded to authors publishing their works in the Polish language whose subject-matter concerns the themes of religion, culture and civilisation. Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna (6 August 1892 – 16 February 1983) was a Polish poet, prose writer, playwright and translator. She was one of the most acclaimed and celebrated poets during Poland's interwar period. Life and work She was born on 6 August 1892, in Vilnius (now in Lithuania, but then part of the Russian Empire). Carlo Lorenzini (24 November 1826 – 26 October 1890), better known by the pen name Carlo Collodi (), was an Italian author, humourist, and journalist, widely known for his fairy tale novel ''The Adventures of Pinocchio''. Early life Collodi was born in Florence on 24 November 1826. His mother, Angiolina Orzali Lorenzini, was a seamstress from Collodi, the town from which he later took the pen name, and his father, Domenico Lorenzini, was a cook.
