Esperanto
Esperanto ( or ) is the world's most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language. Created by the Warsaw-based ophthalmologist L. L. Zamenhof in 1887, it was intended to be a universal second language for international communication, or "the international language" (). Zamenhof first described the language in '' Dr. Esperanto's International Language'' (), which he published under the pseudonym . Early adopters of the language liked the name ''Esperanto'' and soon used it to describe his language. The word translates into English as "one who hopes". Within the range of constructed languages, Esperanto occupies a middle ground between "naturalistic" (imitating existing natural languages) and ''a'priori'' (where features are not based on existing languages). Esperanto's vocabulary, syntax and semantics derive predominantly from languages of the Indo-European group. The vocabulary derives primarily from Romance languages, with substantial contributions from Ge ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Oishi Wasaburo
was a Japanese meteorologist. Born in Tosu, Saga, he is best known for his discovery of the high-altitude air currents now known as the jet stream. He was also an important Esperantist, serving as the second Board President of the from 1930 to 1945. Jet stream and Esperanto He wrote the first official report from Japan's Aerological Observatory (written in 1926 and in the auxiliary language of Esperanto). In this report (''Raporto de Aerologia Observatorio de Tateno)'' data was stratified by season and used to produce the mean seasonal wind profiles. The profile for winter gave the first known evidence of the persistent strong westerlies over Japan that would later become known as the jet stream. In an attempt to reach an unresponsive foreign audience, Wasaburo Oishi published nineteen reports between 1926 and 1944, all of them written in Esperanto, in total 1246 pages. Wasaburo Ooishi was not only the director of Japan’s Tateno atmospheric observatory but also the head of the ... Jet Stream
Jet streams are fast flowing, narrow, meandering thermal wind, air currents in the Atmosphere of Earth, atmospheres of some planets, including Earth. On Earth, the main jet streams are located near the altitude of the tropopause and are westerly winds (flowing west to east). Jet streams may start, stop, split into two or more parts, combine into one stream, or flow in various directions including opposite to the direction of the remainder of the jet. Overview The strongest jet streams are the polar jets around the Polar vortex, polar vortices, at above sea level, and the higher altitude and somewhat weaker subtropical jets at . The Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere each have a polar jet and a subtropical jet. The northern hemisphere polar jet flows over the middle to northern latitudes of North America, Europe, and Asia and their intervening oceans, while the southern hemisphere polar jet mostly circles Antarctica, both all year round. Jet streams are the prod ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Esperanto In Japan
Esperanto in Japan (in Japanese: 日本のエスペラント) dates back to the 19th century. History Esperantists briefly increased in Japan in the 1880s, along with the interest in the planned language Volapük, but most scholars think the Japanese Esperanto movement really started in 1906, during the Russo-Japanese War. Early learners of Esperanto included Japanese novelist Futabatei Shimei, historian Kuroita Katsumi, and anarchist Ōsugi Sakae. An influential student group known as the Shinjinkai (新人会) hosted debates with fellow Korean and Chinese students in Esperanto, and the Bahai mission headed by Vasili Eroshenko and Agnes Baldwin Alexander was influential in spreading Esperanto along with Christian missions. Esperanto chants were shouted during the visit of Indian Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore to Japan. The Japanese esperanto association Japanese may refer to: * Something from or related to Japan, an island country in East Asia * Japanese langua ...
