Japanese 48th Division
The was an infantry division of the Imperial Japanese Army. Its call sign was the The IJA 22nd Army was a short-lived component of the Southern China Area Army from February to November 1940 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. A component of the IJA 22nd Army was the which was involved in combat operations in Guangdong Province. Twenty-Third Army (Japan)
The was an army of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. History The Japanese 23rd Army was formed on June 26, 1941 under the Imperial General Headquarters. It was transferred to the control of the China Expeditionary Army on August 12 of the same year. It was based in Guangdong province and on Hainan Island to replace the Southern China Area Army which was disbanded June 26, 1941. The Japanese 23rd Army was primarily a garrison force to deter the possible landings of Allied forces in southern China. It was involved in the Battle of Guilin-Liuzhou (part of Operation Ichi-Go) from August–November 1944. The Japanese 23rd Army surrendered to the Chinese Kuomintang forces on August 15, 1945 with the surrender of Japan and was disbanded in Guangzhou. was a lieutenant general in the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II. Biography Early career Tsuchihashi was born in Saga prefecture and graduated from the 24th class of Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1912 and the 32nd class of the Army War College (Japan), Army Staff College in 1920. In 1921 he was assigned to the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff Office, and from 1923 to 1924 was assigned to learn French language, French at the Tokyo Foreign Language School in Kanda, Tokyo.
