January 2023 Jenin Incursion
On 26 January 2023, the Israel Border Police and the Israeli army conducted an armed raid on the Jenin refugee camp, which is in Area A of the Israeli-occupied West Bank and under Palestinian civil authority. According to ''The Jerusalem Post'', the objective was to prevent a planned terrorist strike and arrest three wanted Islamic Jihad militants. Nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces during the ensuing clashes, one of whom was an elderly woman. On 29 January, another Palestinian succumbed to wounds received during the raid, bringing the total killed to ten. It was the deadliest Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in nearly 20 years. The Israeli government said at least six of those killed were armed men. The deaths brought the number of Palestinians killed in 2023 to thirty, 20 of whom were killed in Jenin. Israeli–Palestinian Conflict
The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is one of the world's most enduring conflicts, beginning in the mid-20th century. Burqin, Palestine
Burqin ( ar, برقين) is a Palestinian town in the northern West Bank located 5 km west of Jenin. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) census, its population was 5,685 in 2007. Pottery sherds from the Early Bronze I, Early Bronze IIB, Late Bronze III, Iron Age I, Iron Age II, late Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad/Abbasid, Medieval and early Ottoman era have been found. Ottoman era In 1517, the village was included in the Ottoman Empire with the rest of Palestine, and in the 1596 tax-records it appeared as ''Bruqin'', located in the ''Nahiya'' of Jabal Sami of the '' Liwa'' of Nablus. The population was 23 households and 4 bachelors, all Muslim. Saleh al-Arouri (born 19 August 1966; ar, صالح العاروري), also transliterated as Salah al-Arouri or Salih al-Aruri, is a prominent leader of Hamas and founding commander of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military.
