Jan Moedwil
Fernand (Nand) Geersens (Borgerhout, 21 October 1895 Ixelles, 9 February 1959) was the Dutch-language voice of Radio België, the channel of the Belgian National Radio Broadcaster (BNRO) during World War II which broadcast from London. He was known by the nom de guerre Jan Moedwil. Career Prior to his radio career, Geersens was editor-in-chief of the bibliophile review ''Boek en Kunst'' and had since the 1920s been affiliated with the . He was also active in Liberal organizations and was chairman of the Liberale Vlaamschen Bond. As of 1936, Geersens worked for in the expenditure department and was therefore not directly involved in reporting. At Radio Belgique Victor de Laveleye was his counterpart and provided news bulletins for the French-speaking part of the country. Laveleye and Geersens collaborated on the first Radio Belgique broadcast on 28 September 1940. A plaquette (, ''small plaque'') is a small low relief sculpture in bronze or other materials. These were popular in the Italian Renaissance and later. They may be commemorative, but especially in the Renaissance and Mannerist periods were often made for purely decorative purposes, with often crowded scenes from religious, historical or mythological sources. Only one side is decorated, giving the main point of distinction with the artistic medal, where both sides are normally decorated. Most are rectangular or circular, but other shapes are found, as in the example illustrated. Typical sizes range from about two inches up to about seven across a side, or as the diameter, with the smaller end or middle of that range more common. Liberation Of Belgium
The Liberation of Belgium from German occupation was completed on 4 February 1945 when the entire country was reportedly free of German troops with the liberation of the village of Krewinkel. The operation began when Allied forces entered on 2 September 1944. The liberation came after four years of German-occupied rule. The Belgian government was returned to power on 8 September 1944, after Allied forces captured Brussels four days earlier. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service.
