James W. Porter II
James W. Porter II (born February 7, 1949) is an American lawyer who was president of the National Rifle Association from 2013 to 2015. Born in Birmingham in 1949, his father, Irvine Porter, was president before him, serving from 1959 to 1961. He is also a sixth-generation Alabama landowner and is a strong advocate for wildlife management and hunting. Maria Valeryevna Butina (russian: Мари́я Вале́рьевна Бу́тина, sometimes transliterated as Mariya Butina; born November 10, 1988) is a Russian politician, political activist and former entrepreneur who was convicted in 2018 of acting as an unregistered foreign agent of Russia within the United States. She worked as an assistant for Aleksandr Torshin, a former member of the Federation Council, a member of Vladimir Putin's United Russia party, and a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia. The position of president of the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a symbolic figurehead role, which dates back to the organization's foundation in New York on November 17, 1871.
