James P. Whitney
Sir James Pliny Whitney (October 2, 1843 – September 25, 1914) was a Canadian politician and lawyer in the province of Ontario. He served as Conservative member of the legislature for Dundas from 1888 and as the sixth premier of Ontario from 1905 until his death 1914. He is the only premier of Ontario to have died while in office. Early life Whitney was born in Williamsburgh Township in 1843 and attended Cornwall Grammar School before articling at the law office of John Sandfield Macdonald in the 1860s, but did not resume his legal studies until 1871. He was called to the bar in 1875, and practised law in Morrisburg. Whitney was active in the Militia at Cornwall, serving as a Private in a volunteer company during the Trent Affair and then a Sergeant with the Cornwall Volunteer Infantry during the Fenian Raids. Dundas County, Ontario
Dundas County is a former county in the province of Ontario, Canada. It was named after Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, who was the British Home Secretary (1791–1794), with responsibility for the colonies. Dundas was first settled by individuals of European background in 1784, when German United Empire Loyalist, Loyalists who had fought with John Johnson (loyalist), Sir John Johnson in the American Revolutionary War re-settled in Canada. The settlers were descendants of the German_Americans#Palatines, Palatine immigrants to America in 1710. John Sandfield Macdonald
John Sandfield Macdonald, (December 12, 1812 – June 1, 1872) was the joint premier of the Province of Canada from 1862 to 1864. He was also the first premier of Ontario from 1867 to 1871, one of the four founding provinces created at Confederation in 1867. He served as both premier and attorney general of Ontario from July 16, 1867, to December 20, 1871. He was referred to by his middle name, Sandfield, and often signed his correspondence and documents as ''J. Sandfield Macdonald''. Cornwall Grammar School
Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS) is a high school located in Cornwall, Ontario. It was built in 1806 and is one of the oldest schools in Canada. The school's bicentennial in 2006 attracted over 1500 former students back to the school. History Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School was founded in 1806 by John Strachan as the Cornwall Grammar School. Strachan would later go on to help found the University of Toronto. Over the years, the school has been through several structural changes, such as when the 1944 Cornwall–Massena earthquake destroyed the middle of the building which then had to be demolished and reconstructed.
