James C. Albury
James C. Albury is an American television personality and director of the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College. Albury was born in Denver, Colorado but grew up in Miami, Florida. At age 14, he started volunteering at the Miami Museum of Science's planetarium. He stayed with the museum until he was 22 years old. At 21, Albury started as a recruit in University of Florida's Astronomy Program. He earned a bachelor's degree plus one year of master's work before being hired at the University in the Office of Academic Technology. Star Gazers
''Star Gazers'' (formerly known as ''Jack Horkheimer: Star Hustler'' and later ''Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer'') is a short astronomy show on American public television previously hosted by Jack Horkheimer, executive director of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium. After his death in 2010, a series of guest astronomers hosted until 2011, when Dean Regas, James Albury, and Marlene Hidalgo became permanent co-hosts. In 2019, Dean Regas and James Albury stepped down from the program and were replaced by Trace Dominguez. On the weekly program, the host informs the viewer of significant astronomical events for the upcoming week, including key constellations, stars and planets, lunar eclipses and conjunctions, as well as historical and scientific information about these events. Kika Silva Pla Planetarium
The Santa Fe College Kika Silva Pla Planetarium is a 34-foot in diameter, domed theater in Gainesville, Florida. The planetarium seats 60 people and uses two projection systems. An In-Space-System (ISS) 1C-3K digital projection system by RSA Cosmos and an optical-mechanical Chronos Space Simulator manufactured by Goto. History The planetarium was dedicated in September 2006 and officially opened to the public in September 2007 and is located on the Northwest Campus of Santa Fe College. The SF Kika Silva Pla Planetarium was made possible by a donation of John Pla and his wife Amy Howard, on behalf of the Pla family, in recognition of his mother, Kika Silva Pla's, commitment to education and passion for social justice and civic engagement. The Sky Above Us
''The Sky Above Us with James Albury'' is a short American astronomy show hosted by James Albury, director of the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College. Each episode is approximately five minutes in length; and, a new episode is released every two or three weeks. Prior to hosting this series, Albury had spent eight years co-hosting the long-running PBS astronomy series, '' Star Gazers''. The series is produced at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. James Albury announced the launch of the astronomy series on his Facebook fan page.
