Jack White (politician)
John Edgar "Jack" White (July 10, 1925 - September 10, 2002) was a Canadian labour union activist. He was the first elected black representative of the Ironworkers, and one of the first Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) national staff representatives from a minority background. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, White was one of the first black Canadians to run for election to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in 1959. He stood as an Ontario New Democratic Party candidate in Dovercourt in the 1963 election. In the early 1960s, White was involved with a Toronto-based newspaper''.'' Bill White (Canadian Politician)
William Andrew White, III, (February 7, 1915 – January 23, 1981) was a Canadian composer and social justice activist, who was the first Black Canadian to run for federal office in Canada. Family and education He was born in 1915 in Truro, Nova Scotia, the son of Baptist minister William A. White and his wife Izie Dora (White). (They were not related before marriage.) Among his twelve siblings were internationally renowned Canadian concert singer Portia White, labour union leader and politician Jack White, and television performer Lorne White. Black Nova Scotians (also known as African Nova Scotians and Afro-Nova Scotians) are Black Canadians whose ancestors primarily date back to the Colonial United States as slaves or freemen, later arriving in Nova Scotia, Canada, during the 18th and early 19th centuries.
