Ivan Zakmardi
Ivan Zakmardi (c. 1600 - 20 April 1667) was a Croatian humanist, lawyer and poet, who served as the prothonotary of the Habsburg Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia in 1644, and was the representative of both the King and Ban of Croatia in legal matters. He is notable for setting the foundations for the Croatian State Archives in 1643. Biography He studied at the Classical Gymnasium in Zagreb, which was followed by studying philosophy in Olomouc, Bohemia. After returning to Croatia, he became a lawyer representing the Bishopric of Zagreb, and worked as a public servant in various roles, such as judge in Križevci County, notary of Varaždin County, county notary of the Kingdom, chief treasurer and taxer of the Kingdom. He brought the Paulines to Križevci, who established a monastery, and secondary and primary schools. Croatian nobility ( hr, plemstvo, lit=vlastelin; french: la noblesse) was a privileged social class in Croatia during the Antiquity and Medieval periods of the country's history. Noble families in the Kingdom of Croatia included high ranking populates from Slavonia, Dalmatia, Istria, and Republic of Ragusa. Members belonged to an elite social hierarchy, normally placed immediately behind blood royalty, that possessed considerably more privileges or eminence than most other classes in a society. Membership thereof typically was often hereditary. Historically, membership in the nobility and the prerogatives thereof have been regulated or acknowledged by the monarch. Acquisition of sufficient power, wealth, military prowess or royal favour enabled commoners to ascend into the nobility. The ''Proleksis Encyclopedia'' ( hr, Proleksis enciklopedija) is the first Croatian general and national online encyclopedia. ''Proleksis Encyclopedia'' features more than 62,000 articles and more than 17,000 photographs, illustrations and maps. It is freely available to registered users of CARNET, the Croatian national research and education network. The users cannot change the encyclopedia's content directly, but they can post comments and corrections, or submit new articles, all subject to approval by the editorial board. The encyclopedia aims to enlarge the number of entries using input from collaborators. ''Proleksis Encyclopedia'' is a result of collaboration between CARNET and Pro Leksis d.o.o., started in February 2008, and is supported by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (Croatia), Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The Ottoman Turks ( tr, Osmanlı Türkleri), were the Turkic founding and sociopolitically the most dominant ethnic group of the Ottoman Empire ( 1299/1302–1922). Reliable information about the early history of Ottoman Turks remains scarce, but they take their Turkish name, ''Osmanlı'' ("Osman" became altered in some European languages as "Ottoman"), from the house of Osman I (reigned 1299–1326), the founder of the House of Osman, the ruling dynasty of the Ottoman Empire for its entire 624 years.
