Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi ed Italici (English: Institute for Etruscan and Italic Studies) is a cultural institution based in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. It was founded in 1925 with the aim of promoting and enhancing in Italy and worldwide studies on the Etruscan civilization and other peoples of ancient Italy. History Founded in 1925 with the name of "Comitato Permanente per l’Etruria" by the will of the Italian archaeologist Antonio Minto, renamed later as "Istituto Internazionale di Studi Etruschi" in 1932, "Istituto di Studi Etruschi ed Italici" in 1951, and finally in "Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi ed Italici" in 1989. Giacomo Devoto
Giacomo Devoto (19 July 1897 – 25 December 1974) was an Italian historical linguist and one of the greatest exponents of the twentieth century of the discipline. He was born in Genoa and died in Florence. Career In 1939 he founded with Bruno Migliorini the magazine Lingua Nostra. Guglielmo Maetzke
Guglielmo Maetzke (Florence, 12 July 1915 - 19 March 2008) was an Italian archaeologist and etruscologist. A pupil of the Etruscologist Massimo Pallottino, he directed important excavation campaigns in Tuscany, Lazio, Campania and Sardinia. Biography In 1958 he founded the ''Soprintendenza archeologica per le province di Sassari e Nuoro'' (Archaeological Superintendence for the provinces of Sassari and Nuoro) in Sassari, of which he was the first director. From 1966 to 1980 he was director of the ''Soprintendenza alle antichità dell'Etruria'' (Superintendence of Antiquities of Etruria). Massimo Pallottino
Massimo Pallottino (9 November 1909 in Rome – 7 February 1995 in Rome) was an Italian archaeologist specializing in Etruscan civilization and art. Biography Pallottino was a student of Giulio Quirino Giglioli and worked early in his career on the Temple of Apollo at Veii. In essence Pallottino created the modern discipline of Etruscology and trained many of its leading practitioners. He published a massive corpus of material during his career and established a research center in Rome, today known as ''C.N.R. per l'Archeologia etrusco-italica''. He was also influential in establishing the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi e Italici and its journal, ''Studi Etruschi''. Luisa Banti (1894 – 1978) was an Italian archaeologist, art historian, and educator specializing in the Etruscan and Minoan civilizations. Her best known work is ''Il mondo degli Etruschi'' (The World of the Etruscans). First published in 1960 and translated into several languages, it influenced scholarly opinion for many years and became a classic text.
