Islamic TV ( bn, ইসলামিক টিভি) was Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable religious television channel. The owner of the channel was Said Iskandar, the younger brother of the former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Its head office was in Banglamotor, Dhaka. In 2013, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission shut Islamic TV down, along with Diganta TV. Prior to its shutdown, it was Bangladesh's only religious television channel. Said Iskandar
Sayeed Iskander (13 January 1953 – 23 September 2012) was a Bangladeshi politician and army major. He was a member of the Bangladeshi parliament from 2001 to 2006, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party from the Feni-1 constituency. He was the younger brother of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Iskander was also the founding chairman of Islamic Television. Early life Sayeed Iskander was born on 13 January 1953 in Dinajpur. He belonged to a Bengali Muslim family with origins in Fulgazi, Feni District. He was the son of tea-businessman Iskandar Ali Majumder, who was in turn the son of Salamat Ali Majumdar, who was the son of Azgar Ali Majumdar, who was the son of Nahar Muhammad Khan, who was the son of Murad Khan, a 16th-century Middle Eastern immigrant. Khaleda Zia
Khaleda Zia (; born Khaleda Khanam Putul in 1945) is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from March 1991 to March 1996, and again from June 2001 to October 2006. She was the first female prime minister of Bangladesh. She is the widow of former President of Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman. She is the current chairperson and leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) which was founded by Rahman in 1978. After a military coup in 1982, led by Army Chief General Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Zia helped lead the movement for democracy until the fall of Ershad in 1990. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) ( bn, বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কমিশন) is an independent commission founded under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001 (Act # 18 of 2001). The BTRC is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications (wire, cellular, satellite and cable) of Bangladesh. The chairman of the commission has the status of a judge of the Bangladesh High Court. Shyam Sunder Sikder is the chairman of the commission. Diganta Television
Diganta Television ( bn, দিগন্ত টেলিভিশন; ) was a Bangladeshi Bengali-language privately owned satellite and cable news television channel founded in 2007. The channel was owned Diganta Media Corporation, which also owns the daily newspaper ''Daily Naya Diganta''. Diganta Television officially began broadcasting on 28 August 2008, and was shutdown along with Islamic TV on 6 May 2013, both of which were assumed to be supporting the Jamaat-e-Islami political party, and as a result faced boycotts during the 2013 Shahbag protests. Shutdown The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission forcibly ceased the broadcast of Diganta Television, along with Islamic TV, on 6 May 2013, at about 4:30am. Peace TV Bangla
Peace TV Bangla is the Bengali-language channel of the UAE-based Peace TV. The founder and president of Peace TV Bangla is Zakir Naik, an Islamic preacher from Mumbai, India. It was launched on April 22, 2011, and is broadcasting worldwide. After the terrorist attack in Dhaka, which caused 29 casualties, including 20 hostages (18 foreigners and 2 locals), investigations in the matter revealed that one of the terrorists involved in the attack had posted sermons of Zakir Naik on social media where he urged "all Muslims to be terrorists" by saying "if he is terrorizing a terrorist, he is following Islam".
