Isabella Vincentini
Maria Isabella Vincentini (born in 1954) is an Italian poet, essayist and literary critic. She graduated in Humanities at La Sapienza University in Rome, where she also gained a post-graduate degree in modern philology. The focus of her dissertation was Nietzsche’s philological writings and the classical world of Greek tragedy. Topics which are revisited both in her essays and in her poetry, which is influenced by contemporary Greek poetry, especially by that of Odisseas Elitis and Giorgos Seferis, both of which she has dealt with extensively in her criticism. Her essays focus on the debate on the theory of literature between hermeneutics, deconstruction and postmodernism (Blanchot, Deleuze, Foucault, Lyotard, Todorov, de Man and Frye) and aim to provide a thematic reading of twentieth-century poetry (Mallarmé, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Ungaretti, Quasimodo, Montale, Luzi and Rosselli). ''Agalma: Rivista di Studi Culturali e di Estetica'' is an academic journal dedicated to cultural studies and aesthetics. It was established in 2000 by the philosopher Mario Perniola and a group of Italian and international intellectuals in response to the widely felt discontent with the international and Italian philosophical and cultural contexts at the time. Mario Perniola
Mario Perniola (20 May 1941 – 9 January 2018) was an Italian philosopher, professor of aesthetics and author. Many of his works have been published in English. Biography Mario Perniola was born in Asti, Piedmont. He studied philosophy under Luigi Pareyson at the University of Turin where he graduated in 1965. While he was reading philosophy in Turin, he met Gianni Vattimo, Umberto Eco, who all became prominent scholars of Pareyson's school. From 1966 to 1969 he was connected to the avant-garde Situationist International movement founded by Guy Debord with whom he kept on friendly terms for several years. He became full professor of aesthetics at the University of Salerno in 1976 and then he moved to the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he has been teaching since 1983.
