Indo-Seychellois
__NOTOC__ Indo-Seychellois are inhabitants of Seychelles with Indian heritage. With about 10,000 Indo-Seychellois in a total Seychellois population of nearly 100,000, they constitute a minority ethnic group in Seychelles. Origins The first Indo-Seychellois were south Indians, who were brought as slaves along with Africans, by the fifteen French colonists in 1770. Later, as colonial plantations and road construction work started, a larger group was brought in not as slaves, but as indentured labourers (called ''coolies''). The colonial era arrival records of Indo-Seychellois were not well kept. Those available suggest ships brought Indians to work, and many returned to India when their work contract expired. For example, in February 1905, one British Indian ship's record states that 135 Indians arrived in the Seychelles mostly male adults (106), some females (42), and a few children (7). Satya Naidu
The Satya Naidu or Sathyanarayanan Sudarsan Naidu (born 9 November 1992) is the first Hindu member of Seychelles National Assembly. He is also the youngest Parliamentarian of the 7th National Assembly. He was elected from the St. Louis constituency in the 2020 Seychellois parliamentary election. Early life Naidu was born on the 9 November 1992. His family traced their origin to the Mayavaram district of Tamil Nadu in India, which his grandfather left in 1917? Mahé, Seychelles
Mahé is the largest island of Seychelles, with an area of , lying in the northeast of the Seychellean nation in the Somali Sea part of the Indian Ocean. The population of Mahé was 77,000, as of the 2010 census. It contains the capital city of Victoria and accommodates 86% of the country's total population. The island was named after Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais, a French governor of Isle de France (modern-day Mauritius). Tamil-Seychellois are people of Tamil ethnic origin living in the island nation of Seychelles. Their population is approximately 4000, making them one of the country's significant minorities. History Tamil immigrants arrived in Seychelles as early as 1770, and were among the first settlers to the originally sparsely inhabited island nation. Traders from the French colony of Pondicherry and later traders from present day Tamil Nadu visited the islands for trade in timber. A trading community was established and many of the Tamils integrated into the local population. In 1901, there were roughly 3500 Tamil-speakers out of the country's population of 19,237. Victoria () is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Seychelles, situated on the north-eastern side of Mahé island, the archipelago's main island. The city was first established as the seat of the British colonial government.
