Ilin Island
Ilin Island is a small island in the Philippines. Measuring , it is just south of Mindoro, separated by the Ilin Strait and Mangarin Bay. To the west is the smaller Ambulong Island, across the Ambulong Strait. Politically, the island is part of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and is divided into ten barangays, namely: Ansiray, Bankal (Bangkal), Buri, Catayungan, Ilin (Iling Proper), Inasakan, Ipil, Labangan Ilin, Natandol and Pawican. As of the 2015 census, its population is 12,017 persons, up from 10,296 in the 2010 census. The island is home to the Ilin Island cloudrunner, an endangered species of cloud rat. San Jose, officially the Municipality of San Jose ( tgl, Bayan ng San Jose), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 153,267, representing a third of the provincial population, and is the largest among cities (excluding Puerto Princesa City) and municipalities in the Mimaropa region. San Jose has the province's largest commercial port and airport, the most banking, business, dining and commercial establishments in Occidental Mindoro, and has become a center of trade in the Mimaropa region. Mindoro Strait
The Mindoro Strait ( tgl, Kipot ng Mindoro) is one of the straits connecting the South China Sea with the Sulu Sea in the Philippines. It separates Mindoro Island from Busuanga Island (one of the Calamian Islands of Palawan Province). Located between the two islands is the Apo Reef, the largest coral reef system in the Philippines. Mimaropa (usually capitalized in official government documents), formally known as the Southwestern Tagalog Region, is an administrative region in the Philippines. It was also formerly but still colloquially designated as Region IV-B until 2016. It is one of two regions in the country having no land border with another region (the other being Eastern Visayas). Ambulong (also spelled Ambolon) is a small island in the Philippines located on the western side of the Ambolon Strait, that separates it from Ilin Island. Ambulong is located in Occidental Mindoro province of the Philippines, part of the municipality of San Jose. In 1919 it was described as "hilly and well wooded", and in 1919 its elevation at the northern part of the island was recorded at .
