Sayedna Iftekhar Ahmed Sharif (22 February 1924 – 4 March 1995), often mononymously credited as Iftekhar, was an Indian actor who mainly worked in Hindi cinema. He is known for his role as a police officer. Career Iftekhar was born in Jalandhar and was the eldest among four brothers and a sister. After completing his matriculation, Iftekhar did a diploma course in painting from Lucknow College Of Arts. Iftekhar had a passion for singing and was impressed with the famous singer Kundanlal Sehgal. In his 20s, Iftekhar travelled to Calcutta for an audition conducted by the music composer Kamal Dasgupta, who was then serving for HMV. Dasgupta was so impressed by Iftekhar's personality that he recommended his name to M. P. Productions as an actor. Iftekhar made his debut in the 1944 film ''Taqraar'', which was made under the banner of Art Films-Kolkata. Ittefaq (1969 Film)
''Ittefaq'' (English: ''Coincidence'') is a 1969 Indian mystery thriller film produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by his brother Yash Chopra. The film stars Nanda and Rajesh Khanna in the lead with Sujit Kumar, Bindu, Madan Puri and Iftekhar playing supporting roles and has music by Salil Chowdhury. The film became a "semi-hit" at the box office. The film is based on 1965 American movie ''Signpost to Murder''. which was earlier adapted into a Gujarati drama ''Dhummas'' starring Sarita Joshi. It was the fourth Bollywood film (after ''Naujawan'', ''Munna'' and ''Kanoon'') that did not have any songs in it. What was remarkable was that a previous production from the same production house, i.e. B.R.Films, namely ''Kanoon'', made in 1960, was also a song-less film and with the same leading lady Nanda. ''Don'' is a 1978 Indian Hindi-language crime action thriller film directed by Chandra Barot, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Pran. Written by Salim–Javed, and produced by Nariman Irani, the film also features Iftekhar, Om Shivpuri, and Satyen Kappu in pivotal roles. Bachchan played dual roles, as the titular character and his lookalike simpleton. The plot revolves around Vijay, a Bombay slum-dweller who resembles the powerful criminal Don, being asked by Police Superintendent D'Silva to masquerade as Don after to the latter's death, in order to act as an informant for the police and track down the root of the criminal organization. ''Bandini'' (Hindi: बन्दिनी, translation: ''Imprisoned'') is a 1963 Hindi drama film directed and produced by Bimal Roy, the man who directed classics such as ''Do Bigha Zameen'' and ''Devdas.'' Bandini stars Nutan, giving one of the most acclaimed roles of her career, her performance in the film is regarded among the best performances ever given by an actress of Hindi cinema. along with Ashok Kumar and Dharmendra as leads, and explores the human conflicts of love and hate intertwined in the mind of Kalyani (Nutan). ''Raja Rani'' () is a 1973 Hindi-language film. The film stars Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. The supporting cast included Sujith Kumar, Farida Jalal, Iftekar, Dulari and Asit Sen. ''Khamoshi'' (Hindi: ख़ामोशी, ur, , translation: ''Silence'') is a 1969 black-and-white Hindi drama film directed by Asit Sen, starring Waheeda Rehman and Rajesh Khanna. It is especially remembered for its memorable music by Hemant Kumar and lyrics by Gulzar in songs such as "Tum Pukaar Lo... Tumhara Intezaar Hai" sung by Hemant Kumar, "Woh Shaam Kuch Ajeeb Thi" by Kishore Kumar and "Humne Dekhi Hai In Aankhon Ki Mehekti Khushboo" sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
