ITV Lunchtime News
The ''ITV Lunchtime News'' is the afternoon news programme produced by ITN on the British television network ITV. It airs Monday to Friday from 1:30pm, covering British national and international news stories and is presented by Nina Hossain. History Television broadcasting hours in the United Kingdom had been tightly regulated and controlled by the British government until 1972, when the then Conservative government under Prime Minister Edward Heath decided to end all limits and restrictions on the broadcasting hours of television. ITV had been campaigning for the end of the restrictions since the mid-1960s, and finally on 19 January 1972, the government announced the lifting of all restrictions, allowing proper daytime television to launch on both the BBC and ITV. Nina Hossain
Nina Hossain is a British journalist and presenter employed by ITN as the lead presenter of the ''ITV Lunchtime News''. Background Hossain was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England to a Bangladeshi father and an English mother. Her father, Tabarek Hossain (1935–2002), was born in British India (now Bangladesh) and migrated to Britain in the 1960s (when Bangladesh was still East Pakistan). He was a psychiatrist with a specialism in alcoholism, who set up the Kirklees Alcohol Advisory Service in 1973 at the town centre, and was the founder and president of Concern For Mental Health in West Yorkshire. Her father married an English nurse, Pamela from Nottingham. Of her Bangladeshi parentage, she states that she has never visited Bangladesh, and does not speak Bengali. Carol Barnes
Carol Lesley Barnes (13 September 1944 – 8 March 2008) was a British television newsreader and broadcaster. She worked for ITN from 1975 to 2004. Early life Barnes was born in Norwich, and attended St Martin-in-the-Fields High School for Girls, Tulse Hill, London. She did not like school, and left at the age of 16, taking a number of jobs for a year, before leaving to study for A levels at a local college of further education. She graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in English, French and Spanish, followed by a postgraduate teaching diploma ( PGCE) at the University of Birmingham. Career Barnes started her working life as a supply teacher, but decided to switch to a career in media, and held various posts including public relations officer for the Royal Court Theatre in London and sub-editor on the magazine '' Time Out'', before moving into broadcasting, working for Independent Radio News. Chris Ship
Christopher Ship is an English journalist and presenter, working for ITV News. Since 2017, he has been the Royal Editor. Early life and education Ship was brought up in Southampton in Hampshire, and educated at Bellemoor School for Boys (since renamed Upper Shirley High School), a state comprehensive school in the city, where Craig David was a pupil, followed by the University of Sussex, where he studied Media and French. Life and career Ship was appointed senior political correspondent for the ITN-produced service in 2008 - promoted from political correspondent, as part of a reshuffle of ITV's political team. Kylie Pentelow
Kylie Ann Pentelow (born 29 June 1979) is an English journalist and television news presenter. She is a presenter of ''ITV News West Country'' and the '' ITV Weekend News''. Education and career Pentelow was educated at the Sir Christopher Hatton School in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. After graduating from the University of Sheffield with an MA in journalism, her first post was as a reporter for the ''Bath Chronicle''. She then joined ''BBC Points West'' as a video journalist, and after joining the BBC graduate training scheme undertook postings in BBC local radio in Oxford and Birmingham, before moving back to television with the BBC News Channel. Rageh Omaar
Rageh Omaar (; so, Raage Oomaar; ar, راجح أومار; born 19 July 1967) is a Somali-born British journalist and writer. He was a BBC world affairs correspondent, where he made his name reporting from Iraq. In September 2006, he moved to a new post at Al Jazeera English, where he presented the nightly weekday documentary series ''Witness'' until January 2010. ''The Rageh Omaar Report'', first aired February 2010, is a one-hour, monthly investigative documentary in which he reports on international current affairs stories. Lucrezia Gaia Millarini (born 18 February 1976) is an English journalist and television presenter currently employed by '' ITV News''. Early life Lucrezia Gaia Millarini was born on 18 February 1976 into a family of Italian descent. Before starting her career in journalism, Millarini studied law at Bristol University and went on to train as a barrister. James Mates
James Mates (born 11 August 1961) is an English newsreader and journalist, currently employed by ITN, where he presents on ITV News and is Europe Editor. Education and early career Mates was educated at Marlborough College, an independent school in the market town of Marlborough in Wiltshire. He left Marlborough at the age of sixteen to sit A-levels at Farnham College in Farnham in Surrey and then studied at the University of Leeds from which he graduated, in 1983, with a degree in International History and Politics. During that time he had spent his summer holidays in 1981 working as a researcher for U.S. Republican Senator John Tower on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Gamal Fahnbulleh (born April 1982) is a British broadcast journalist and presenter, currently employed by ITV Granada. He presents Granada Reports, an evening news programme for North West England and the Isle of Man. Early life Gamal Fahnbulleh was born on April 1982 in Sierra Leone in West Africa. He, his parents, and his sister Miatta Fahnbulleh (economist), Miatta moved to the UK in the 80s when he was three years old. Alastair Stewart
Alastair James Stewart Order of the British Empire, OBE (born 22 June 1952) is an English former journalist and newscaster. Formerly presenting for ITV News, he joined GB News as a presenter in 2021. He has won the Royal Television Society's News Presenter of the Year award twice. Stewart joined Southern Television in 1976 then joined ITN in 1980 where he served three years with ''Channel 4 News'' and then went on to become a main newsreader with ITV News.
