Ivy And Bean
''Ivy + Bean'' is a children's book series written by American author Annie Barrows, illustrated by Sophie Blackall, and published by Chronicle Books. Description In the stories, Ivy, a quiet intellectual girl, and Bean, a rambunctious wild girl, become fast friends despite their differences and initial reluctance to like each other. The series tagline sums up the series as "two friends who never meant to like each other." They are both seven year old girls who live on the cul-de-sac of Pancake Court which is set in an unmentioned town. In each book, they get into considerable mischief and have wild adventures with the other characters in the neighborhood. The books feature illustrations, but are not picture books. The reading level is suitable for grades three and above. As of 2021, there are twelve books in the series. Annie Barrows
Annie Barrows (born 1962 in San Diego, California) is an American editor and author. She is best known for the ''Ivy and Bean'' series of children's books, but she has written several other books for adult readers as well. She co-wrote 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society' with her aunt Mary Ann Shaffer, which was later adapted into a film. Personal life Barrows was the second of two girls (her sister is two years older). She was born in San Diego, near the southern border of the state of California. Sophie Jocasta Blackall is an Australian artist, author, and illustrator of children's books based in Brooklyn, New York. Early life and education Blackall was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1970. In 1992, Blackall earned a Bachelor of Design from University of Technology Sydney. Career Blackall started her career with various jobs such as painting robotic characters for theme parks, and authoring a household hints column. She also exhibited her paintings at galleries in Sydney and Melbourne. While in Australia, she married and had two children. In 2000 she won a lottery for an immigration visa, and moved her family to Brooklyn, New York, even though she had no certainty of employment.
