Ivan Skvortsov-Stepanov
Ivan Ivanovich Skvortsov-Stepanov (russian: Ива́н Ива́нович Скворцо́в-Степа́нов, 24 February 1870 – 8 October 1928) was a prominent Russian Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician. Skvortsov-Stepanov was one of the oldest participants in the Russian revolutionary movement as well as a Marxist writer, economist, historian and journalist. Early life Ivan Skvortsov was born in Maltsevo-Brodovo village, Bogorodsky Uezd, Moscow province – the village is now Lesnye Polyany, in Pushkinsky District. He was the son of a Moscow factory clerical worker based in Bogorodsk. Early career He graduated from the Moscow Teachers' Institute in 1890, became an elementary school teacher, joined the revolutionary movement as a student in Moscow in 1892, and joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1898. Vyacheslav Menzhinsky
Vyacheslav Rudolfovich Menzhinsky (russian: Вячесла́в Рудо́льфович Менжи́нский, pl, Wiesław Mężyński; 19 August 1874 – 10 May 1934) was a Polish-Russian Bolshevik revolutionary, Soviet statesman and Communist Party official who served as chairman of the OGPU from 1926 to 1934. He was master of more than 10 languages (including Korean, Chinese, Turkish, and Persian, the last one learned especially in order to read works by Omar Khayyám). Early life Vyacheslav Menzhinsky, a member of the Polish nobility, was born into an Orthodox Christian Polish-Russian family of teachers. His father was a Russified Pole and a history lecturer. His mother was a woman of letters who sympathised with the revolutionaries. His brother was a tsarist official, working for the Ministry of Finance. The Party of Left Socialist-Revolutionaries (russian: Партия левых социалистов-революционеров-интернационалистов) was a revolutionary socialist political party formed during the Russian Revolution. In 1917, the Socialist Revolutionary Party split between those who supported the Russian Provisional Government, established after the February Revolution and those who supported the Bolsheviks, who favoured the overthrow of the Provisional Government and the placing of political power in the hands of the Congress of Soviets. The Fourth (Unity) Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party that took place in (old) Folkets hus, Stockholm, Sweden, from 10-25 April (23 April to 8 May), 1906.
