Italy Fed Cup Team
The Italy women's national tennis team represents Italy in international women's tennis and is directed by the Federazione Italiana Tennis. The team played in the first ever tournament in 1963, and is one of four teams that has taken part in every single edition since. The Italian national team was initially unsuccessful in world tennis, only winning twenty ties in the first two decades of competition never reaching past the quarterfinals since 1999, but in recent times they have become of the most successful teams in the world. They have been a regular member of the ITF rankings World Top Ten since the initiation of the rankings in 2002, and became one of five teams to reach the World No. 1 position in 2009, after they managed to reach all but one final from 2006 to 2010. They have also reached every semifinal since 2009, and since 2001, have accumulated a 22–9 win–loss ratio. Tathiana Garbin
Tathiana Garbin (; born 30 June 1977) is an Italian retired tennis player. She was Gold Medalist at the 1997 Mediterranean Games and Italian capitan in leading the Italian national team (composed by Jasmine Paolini, Sara Errani, Martina Trevisan, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Lucia Bronzetti) to victory in the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup. She was best known for her upset of the defending champion and the reigning world No. 1 Justine Henin, in the second round of the 2004 French Open. The 1965 Federation Cup was a team tennis tournament that took place at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne, Australia. It was third edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup and had eleven nations participating in the tournament throughout the four days from 15–18 January 1965. The eleven teams played in a knockout format with six teams having to play in the opening round to join the remaining five who received first rounds byes. After winning all of the ties 3-0, the final was between the United States and Australia who for the third time in consecutive years met up in the final which was played on the 18 January. Lea Pericoli (22 March 1935 – 4 October 2024) was an Italian tennis player and later television presenter and journalist from Milan. She reached the last sixteen of the French Open twice and the Wimbledon Championships three times, and is also famous for her choice of clothing. Tennis Grand Slam Pericoli reached the last sixteen of the French Championships singles in 1960 and 1964. She reached the fourth round of Wimbledon three times in 1965, 1967, and 1970. Corrado Barazzutti (; born 19 February 1953, in Udine) is a former tennis player from Italy. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 7, achieved in August 1978. After the end of his player career Barazzutti was a coach (sport), non-playing captain of the Italy Davis Cup team and the Italy Fed Cup team.
