1966 Federation Cup (tennis)
The 1966 Federation Cup was the fourth edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. 21 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Turin Press Sporting Club in Turin, Italy from 10–15 May. United States won their second title, defeating West Germany in the final, in what was the first final not featuring Australia. 1965 Federation Cup (tennis)
The 1965 Federation Cup was a team tennis tournament that took place at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne, Australia. It was third edition of the of what is now known as the Fed Cup and had eleven nations participating in the tournament throughout the four days from 15–18 January 1965. The eleven teams played in a knockout format with six teams having to play in the opening round to join the remaining five who received first rounds byes. After winning all of the ties 3-0, the final was between the United States and Australia who for the third time in consecutive years met up in the final which was played on the 18 January. After Lesley Turner and Margaret Smith each recorded wins in the singles, Australia would defend their title that they won in 1964 despite a loss in the doubles. Julie Heldman (born December 8, 1945) is an American tennis player who won 22 singles titles. In 1969 and 1974, she was ranked as the world No. 5. In 1968 and 1969, she was ranked No. 2 in the U.S. She was Canadian National 18 and Under Singles Champion at age 12, U.S. Champion in Girls’ 15 Singles and Girls’ 18 Singles, Italian Open Singles Champion, Canadian Singles and Doubles Champion, and U.S. Clay Court Doubles Champion. Billie Jean King (née Moffitt; born November 22, 1943) is an American former world No. 1 tennis player. King won 39 major titles: 12 in singles, 16 in women's doubles, and 11 in mixed doubles. Vicki Berner (26 July 1945 – 21 June 2017) was a Canadian professional tennis player. During her career, Berner won the doubles event at the Canadian Open five times. Between 1964 and 1973, Berner competed in Grand Slam events. Her highest finishes were the quarterfinals of the 1967 Wimbledon Championships in women's doubles and the semifinals at the 1964 U.S. National Championships in mixed doubles.
