The 2002 Fed Cup was the 40th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The final took place at the Palacio de Congresos de Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, Spain on 2–3 November. Slovakia defeated Spain, giving Slovakia their first title. 2001 Fed Cup
The 2001 Fed Cup was the 39th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The World Group was held at the Parque Ferial Juan Carlos I in Madrid, Spain, from 7–11 November. It was reduced from thirteen to eight teams, divided into two pools, with the winners meeting in the finals. In the final, Belgium defeated Russia, giving Belgium their first title. The World Group was the highest level of Fed Cup competition in 2003. Sixteen nations competed in a four-round knockout competition. Slovakia was the defending champion, but they were defeated in the quarterfinals by Belgium. France defeated United States in the final to win their second title and claim the World No. 1 ranking. Capdepera
Capdepera is a small municipality on Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands, Spain. Capdepera is a historical village just 8 km from Artà. Originally there had been a watchtower where the Castle of Capdepera stands today which was used to guard the coast. In 1300 James II of Aragon ordered the construction of a fortified village which would control the uninhabited land below and the maritime routes with Majorca. For centuries the village survived behind its walls protected from pirate attacks. As the danger of such attacks disappeared residents of the walled town started to relocate themselves at the bottom of the 162m hill which led to the development of modern-day Capdepera.
